"I knew I was going to get the part," Kim Cattrall states matter-of-factly. "I felt it." Cattrall, known for her saucy, sexy roles in "Porky's" and "Mannequin," goes against type in "The Bonfire of the Vanities," Warner Bros.' version of Tom Wolfe's best-seller. In the film, which stars Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith, Cattrall plays Judy, the whippet-thin, middle-age socialite wife of successful New York bond trader Sherman McCoy (Hanks).

Kim Cattrall, 54, plays a former porn star who's the object of a misfit teenager's adoration in "Meet Monica Velour," writer-director Keith Bearden's first feature-length film, which opened Friday. Your character Monica Velour — you're certainly not a former porn star, but you do know what it's like to be a 50-ish performer with a sex-bomb persona. I think there's a difference between sexy and being sexualized, and I think that for me as an actor, I know the difference, but I think the images from the work that you portray, whether it's "Sex and the City" or other films I've done in the past — teen comedies, "Mannequin," "Big Trouble in Little China" — those things sit in people's minds as who you are. The career that I'm having post-"Sex and the City" has been about making different kinds of choices.

If only they'd called it "Almost No Sex and Very Little City," at least we would know what we were in for with " Sex and the City 2." In this second screen incarnation of the fabulous HBO series, the satire is sagging, the irony's atrophied and the funny is flabby. Yes, the clothes are more fabulous than ever, but Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte have misplaced their chic and sassy and become, gulp, too ordinary and desperate. They were never supposed to be like the rest of us. Still, the women are not anywhere as desperate as the movie itself, which fails its stars and its many obsessive fans, unless everyone was waiting for the AARP version.

There's still sex to be had in the city, even though Carrie Bradshaw has settled down with one man. New Line Cinema spokeswoman Candice McDonough confirms that "Sex and the City" stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and writer-director Michael Patrick King are signed for a sequel to last year's hit movie. New Line parent Warner Bros. plans to have the sequel out in summer 2010.

Kim Cattrall said she didn't want to wait any longer for more "Sex and the City," so that means costars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis won't be getting any either. At least for a while. HBO representatives said Cattrall's refusal led the cable channel to drop the idea of a feature film based on the popular series, which ended its six-season run this year.

Japanese carmaker Nissan said Friday that it has pulled a raunchy commercial starring "Sex and the City" actress Kim Cattrall from New Zealand television after complaints over its content. Cattrall, who played the sex-obsessed, promiscuous Samantha Jones in the HBO series, appears in the ad purring with excitement about a new sedan. "Why didn't you tell me it was so big? I just wasn't prepared for it," she gushes. "The all-new Nissan Tiida makes you feel really, really, really good inside."

Kim Cattrall almost canceled the interview because she didn't want her picture taken. The 32-year-old star of "Mannequin" may have looked stunningly attractive with her platinum hair, dark brows and big green eyes, but she wasn't so sure. She had been up all night, thinking about her part in "The Misanthrope," opening Sunday at the La Jolla Playhouse.

NEW YORK -- Kim Cattrall found many reasons to seize the role of Carrie Kipling, wife of British literary superstar Rudyard Kipling, in the film "My Boy Jack." The project, airing on PBS' "Masterpiece Classic" at 9 p.m. Sunday, had instant appeal: Cattrall is a lifelong Kipling fan. "He wrote a poem that I loved as a kid called 'The Way Through the Woods,' " says the actress, 51. "I read 'The Jungle Book,' and my dad bought me 'Kim,' 'cause it was called 'Kim.'

When Kim Cattrall was approached to play a Vulcan lieutenant opposite the redoubtable Mr. Spock in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," she demurred, for a trio of reasons. The last one wasn't so hot, she wasn't exactly sure what this one was all about and sequels weren't her bag. Cattrall pulled a U-turn when she learned that Nicholas Meyer, who directed the second and arguably the best Trek flick, would be navigating the Enterprise on its final voyage.
