Determined to tap into the "truly huge" Latino market, KLYY-FM (107.1) will begin broadcasting contemporary Spanish hits on Monday, including rock en espanol and ballads, said the station's general manager, Sean O'Neill. It has been an English-language alternative rock outlet. The new format is aimed at listeners 25-34, said Bryan Subotnick, executive vice president of Big City Radio, which owns the station.

Los Angeles is widely regarded as the international hub of rock en espanol, or Spanish-language rock. The top bands record here. Many leading acts are managed by local agencies. And rock en espanol shows here--in such celebrated venues as the Greek Theatre, and in the more than 30 local nightclubs devoted to the genre--regularly sell out. Strange thing is that until last month Los Angeles had no commercial radio outlet for the music.

In a move sure to fuel the war between Hollywood talent agents and managers, Michael Menchel resigned from Creative Artists Agency to join former boss Michael Ovitz in his new management company, sources said Wednesday. And Menchel is taking some key clients with him, top among them actor Robin Williams. Williams, who stars in Universal's current box-office hit "Patch Adams," is one of Hollywood's highest-paid movie stars, making $20 million a picture.
