Veteran news anchor Paul Moyer may be done with KNBC-TV Channel 4, but he may not be finished with local news. "I'm officially retired from Channel 4, but that doesn't mean I'm officially retired from the news business forever," Moyer told The Times on Friday. "I can't predict what will happen in the future. I'm not closing the door, but there's nothing out there at the moment."

KNBC-TV Channel 4 was the big winner at the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards again this year, picking up eight statuettes, including two of the three given for best newscasts. NBC Universal on Tuesday named Craig Robinson general manager of KNBC-TV Channel 4 in Los Angeles. It is a homecoming of sorts for Robinson. He grew up in Echo Park, graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Feliz and went to UCLA, where he earned a degree in political science before entering the broadcasting business with a job in sales at KCBS-TV Channel 2. He joined NBC 12 years ago and went to Washington, D.C., and then to Columbus, Ohio, where he managed the local NBC station.

KNBC-TV Channel 4 and KABC-TV Channel 7 continued to fight for dominance in local ratings in the just-concluded May sweeps, with KNBC retaining its long-standing dominance of the 11 p.m. news, KABC-TV remaining first in the evening newscasts, and both stations in a virtual tie in the early morning. There have been specials on local TV about Fiesta Broadway, the Indian Pow Wow in Orange County and the Kingdom Day Parade. But before Universal joined NBC in the General Electric Co. family, KNBC-TV and KWHY would not have had the opportunity -- nor the inclination -- to create a special about a new roller-coaster ride based on behind-the-scenes footage of the construction process.

He is asking for compensatory damages and wants the station ordered to rehire him.
