Spanish-Language Sports Channel Debuts: La Cadena Deportiva Prime Ticket, a cable sports channel started by Los Angeles-based Prime Ticket, made its debut. The channel has signed contracts with some of Mexico's most popular soccer teams. The station plans an extensive slate of boxing matches as well as hockey games from the Los Angeles Kings and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

The Philadelphia Eagles, somewhat surprisingly, lost to the Dallas Cowboys by only six points, 23-17, Monday night. By this season's standards, it was a real nail-biter. Here are just a few of the Monday night scores: --Pittsburgh 45, Atlanta 17. --Buffalo 35, Houston 7. --Pittsburgh 23, Buffalo 0. --San Francisco 42, New Orleans 7. --San Diego 31, Indianapolis 0. The average margin of victory on Monday nights has been 16.14 points.

TNT had its run with Sunday night football. Now it's ESPN's turn, starting Sunday with the Raiders against the Kansas City Chiefs at Kansas City. ESPN will unveil a new opening and will use a score-and-time graphic similar to Fox's. What ESPN should also do sometime is put Phil Simms in the booth with Joe Theismann and play-by-play man Mike Patrick. Simms and Theismann entertained reporters on a conference call this week, showing they click pretty well together.
