A proposed election on a shift in the boundaries between school districts in Glendale and La Canada Flintridge was rejected Friday by state education trustees. "The (7-1) vote today basically throws the case out," said Vic Pallos, spokesman for the Glendale Unified School District. Glendale district officials had appealed to the state Board of Education after a Los Angeles County school district organization committee voted to let residents decide on the proposed boundary shift, Pallos said.

A science teacher and four students at St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge received minor injuries Friday when a highly explosive chemical was mixed with water and shattered a glass beaker. Los Angeles County fire officials said the victims suffered facial cuts from flying glass and received caustic burns when sodium was mixed with water during an experiment in a ninth-grade science class at the Catholic boys' school.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the stuffing of 70 anti-Semitic flyers into student lockers at two La Canada Flintridge schools over the weekend. About 40 flyers were found Monday morning at La Canada High School and 30 flyers were discovered at the Ability Plus School, a private elementary school, said sheriff's spokesman George Ducoulombier. The flyers contained caricatures of Jews, talked about deadly violence against Jews and listed a telephone number. James E.

A petition by a group of La Canada Flintridge residents seeking to break away from the Glendale Unified School District has been approved by the Los Angeles Committee on School District Organization, an official for the committee said. The 11-member county committee must now decide whether to call an election on the transfer and, if so, what area to include, said Jim Marlatt, the committee's representative from the County Office of Education.
