Ronco Inc., maker of the Popeil Pocket Fisherman, Veg-O-Matic and other products advertised on television, has agreed to be acquired by LA Group Inc. for $25 million in cash and stock. The deal should be completed within two months, LA Group President and Chief Executive Daniel Fasano said. LA Group, based in Rochester, N.Y., sells products through infomercials and "Seen on TV" kiosks in retail stores.

Sixteen awards, signifying excellence in commercial and residential architecture and landscaping, were presented at the 18th annual Beautification Awards Luncheon last week by the Los Angeles West Chamber of Commerce. While most recipients of the citations and trophies were informed in advance, the big surprise at the Hotel Bel-Air event was an announcement that the chamber would be changing its name to the Los Angeles Business Council.

The wooden benches are worn. The concrete slabs atop the bluff are drab. The asphalt path sloping to the ocean is ordinary. But from Inspiration Point in Corona del Mar, visitors have an eagles-nest view of a multi-hued sea swirling around jagged rocks below. And the Newport Beach Arts Commission wants the man-made facilities at Inspiration Point to complement nature's handiwork.

Newport Beach's first Art in Public Places project has moved a step closer to reality with the selection of three proposals for transforming a scrubby bluff in Corona del Mar into the site of Orange County's most ambitious public arts undertaking. If all proceeds on schedule, by June, 1988 the project will begin at Corona del Mar's Inspiration Point, which has a spectacular ocean overlook.
