Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson was hospitalized and undergoing medical tests, but was awake and receiving visits from family members and friends, a family spokesman said. Johnson, 94, who has been hospitalized with strokes in the past, did not suffer a stroke this time, Neal Spelce said. Johnson has difficulty speaking but has continued to make public appearances, including at an event at the LBJ Library and Museum last month.

Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson remained hospitalized in Austin in stable condition nearly a week after she was admitted, a spokeswoman said. "She's nice and stable and very comfortable," spokeswoman Elizabeth Christian said, adding that her family members are waiting to learn when she will be released. "They still are eager to get her home." Johnson, 94, the widow of President Lyndon B. Johnson, was hospitalized June 21 for treatment of a low-grade fever, which later subsided.

Lady Bird Johnson, the former first lady, was released from the hospital and was resting comfortably at her home in Austin, a family spokesman said. Johnson, 94, was admitted to Seton Medical Center a week ago and treated for a low-grade fever. She remained at the hospital for observation after the fever subsided. Her daughters, Luci Baines Johnson and Lynda Johnson Robb, were with her during her hospital stay.

LADY Bird Johnson, the widow of Lyndon B. Johnson, whose tumultuous presidency often overshadowed her considerable achievements as an activist first lady, environmentalist and founder of a multimillion-dollar media business, died Wednesday at her home in Austin. She was 94. Johnson had been in failing health for several years, weakened by a series of strokes and other ailments, including a low-grade fever that kept her in the hospital for a week last month.

The History Channel has asked three historians to examine the credibility of a documentary it aired because the widow and former associates of Lyndon B. Johnson complained about the program's contention that the former president was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
