For 24 days in May and June, a team of scientists and technicians were sequestered on a barren hillside here, painstakingly peeling apart the hard-packed soil, sometimes sleeping in tents or under the stars and eating campfire-cooked food. Their singular mission: Unearth a remarkable 24-foot whale skeleton they named Joaquin and glimpse into the 9-million-year-old Joaquin's world.

Councilman Joe Brown on Saturday will lead the third in a monthly series of historical walks to celebrate the city's 10th anniversary. The walk, which will take about 1 1/2 hours, will begin at Seaview Park, near the intersection of Pacific Island and Talavera drives. Walkers will head down Aliso Summit Trail to the Crown Valley Community Park. Water will be provided. The event is free and will start at 9 a.m. Information: (949) 363-0136.
