Orange County residents are invited to see what Christmas was like here at the turn of the century with a one-day Victorian Christmas celebration Saturday at Heritage Hill Historical Park. The park, at 25151 Serrano Road, consists of an adobe house built by the Serrano family in 1863, and a one-room schoolhouse, a church and a farm house all built in the 1890s and early 1900s. The grounds will be decorated with Victorian-era ornaments and lights.

In a culmination of years of grass-roots efforts, two cities were officially created in Orange County Friday, and two women who had been leaders in the incorporation drives were chosen their first mayors. Laguna Hills became the county's 30th city and, 90 minutes later, neighboring Lake Forest became the 31st, continuing an incorporation boom that has seen the South County produce five new cities within four years.

It's their first year as a city, their first parade--and civic organizers are determined to make their first annual Fourth of July celebration a memorable event. Parade officials say they have about 100 entries, including more than 20 floats for the Independence Day parade. Highlights will include a special float from the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station and a few surprise guests from Disneyland. Other entries will include marching bands, antique cars and several civic groups.
