After a week in which news about Lamar Odom was moving very quickly, the basketball player has been arrested on suspicion of DUI - for driving too slowly. The arrest capped a week in which rumors that the "Khloe & Lamar" star was cheating on wife Khloe Kardashian Odom gave way to allegations that he had a drug-abuse problem. Headlines screamed briefly that Odom was "missing" after a failed intervention attempt, but his agent cleared that up somewhat, telling ESPN only that the NBA free agent wasn't missing, and that Khloe knew exactly where he was. Early Friday morning, Odom was going about 50 mph when he was pulled over on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, L.A. Now reported.

Lamar Odom's arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday morning was the latest in a series of grim developments that could endanger the veteran free agent's hopes of returning to the NBA. The former Clippers and Lakers star refused to submit to chemical testing after his arrest, adding fuel to tabloid-style accusations regarding his private life during a tumultuous off-season. Odom was already coming off the worst two seasons of his career and there are no assurances the 14-year NBA veteran, who spent last season with the Clippers, will play another game.

Veteran NBA player Lamar Odom, arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday morning, will see his driver's license suspended for a year because he refused to submit to chemical testing at a police station. California Highway Patrol Officer Leland Tang said Odom was unable to complete a field sobriety test, and once at the station he refused chemical tests to determine his level of alleged intoxication. Drivers suspected of DUI may refuse to take tests in the field, but once they are at a police station, they are required to take a chemical test.

Los Angeles prosecutors opted not to file charges against Clippers forward Lamar Odom in connection with a reported battery and grand theft arrest involving a paparazzo in Hollywood, officials said Wednesday. Instead, Odom would be required to attend a city attorney's hearing that can include a warning to avoid future run-ins or an order to attend counseling. The incident, captured on video last month, took place on El Cerrito Place near Franklin Avenue. It showed Odom confiscating a rolling bag believed to contain camera equipment from a photographer who asked him questions about whether he was having an extramarital affair.

If the Philadelphia 76ers are willing, the Lakers might have a way under the luxury tax and, more important, the repeater tax. The league currently levies a progressive tax that penalizes teams for every $5 million they spend on salary over the threshold of $71.7 million. The repeater tax, which won't start until the 2014-15 season, adds a dollar-for-dollar tax in addition to the progressive tax.  A $90-million roster at the current threshold would cost a team $39.3 million (progressive)

General Manager Mitch Kupchak held up a jersey and presented it to the centerpiece of the Lakers' off-season. It was a big man, as expected, but the newly signed center was Chris Kaman, not Dwight Howard, so there was a more-than-mild difference. Kaman doesn't have Howard's multiple All-Star appearances pedigree. But he brings a sturdy, quirky reputation to the Lakers' front line, having spent several weeks this summer at his Illinois compound to prepare for deer-hunting season but also remembering to shave his five-month-old beard before sitting down with reporters Tuesday.
