General Manager Mitch Kupchak held up a jersey and presented it to the centerpiece of the Lakers' off-season. It was a big man, as expected, but the newly signed center was Chris Kaman, not Dwight Howard, so there was a more-than-mild difference. Kaman doesn't have Howard's multiple All-Star appearances pedigree. But he brings a sturdy, quirky reputation to the Lakers' front line, having spent several weeks this summer at his Illinois compound to prepare for deer-hunting season but also remembering to shave his five-month-old beard before sitting down with reporters Tuesday.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Lamar Odom is being investigated in connection with a reported battery and grand theft incident involving a paparazzo in Hollywood, L.A. police said Thursday. The incident, which was captured on video, took place around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday on El Cerrito Place near Franklin Avenue. The video shows a photographer questioning Odom about whether he was having a relationship with a woman other than his wife, Khloe Kardashian. Odom then appears to confiscate a rolling bag believed to contain camera equipment, place it in the trunk of his white Mercedes coup and drive off. In the same video, he appears again on Hollywood Boulevard removing the items from his trunk and leaving them on the street.

Strange but true, Kobe Bryant recounted with amusement, not anger, the Lakers' meeting with Dwight Howard last week. "I walked in there and everybody's sitting down and everybody's quiet. I don't know what the hell is going on. Everybody is just really ... serious," Bryant said Wednesday. "It was really pretty funny to me. " After Howard chose the Houston Rockets over the Lakers, Bryant quickly "unfollowed" him on Twitter. "Listen man, it's just me, that's just how I am," Bryant said.

Khloe Kardashian went into rant mode late Wednesday to alert all her Twitter followers about her husband Lamar Odom's lashing out at paparazzi. Los Angeles police said Thursday that Odom had reportedly been involved Wednesday in a battery and grand theft incident involving a paparazzo in Hollywood, according to L.A. Now. The incident was caught on video and showed the L.A. Clippers forward being questioned by a pap about a report that he...

Phil Jackson became the latest member of the Lakers' extended family to weigh in on Dwight Howard's departure. It wasn't as rough as Shaquille O'Neal's assessment, but there was a barb or two, predictably, from the former Lakers coach Sunday. "He left a distaste in Lakerland," Jackson said of Howard on Twitter. "The Lakers will be fine. "What DH brings to the game is power and D. This past year didn't show due it to rehab and confusion. If he is better [off] an Astro, so be it. " Calling Howard an "Astro" instead of a Rocket is typical of Jackson's humor.

Khloe Kardashian Odom doesn't have braces, but she is working on perfecting her smile with tooth-straightening apparatus. At age 28 the reality TV star is working on her smile but, thanks to technology and progress, she's doing it the 21st century way: with Invisalign, a teeth-straightening process using clear, removable tooth aligner s that are quite different from metal braces. "Thank you @drkevinsands for being the best dentist ever!" Kardashian Odom tweeted last Thursday.

Any correspondence about possible Clippers' off-season moves needs to go straight to the top. So, Chris Paul, here's a primer on what you should instruct your franchise to do in the coming months to take that next step, otherwise known as getting past the first round of the playoffs. It's not going to be easy, the Clippers creeping toward taxpayer status for the first time in franchise history, assuming you come back. You're going to have to help persuade Donald Sterling to pay those more punitive taxes or risk multiplying the disappointment Clipper Nation experienced in recent weeks.

Though the primary focus for the Clippers will be on re-signing Chris Paul and on whether the team keeps or releases Coach Vinny Del Negro, L.A. has other roster decisions to make as well. The players came in Saturday for their exit interviews with the front office a day after the Clippers were eliminated by the Memphis Grizzlies in a Western Conference first-round series. It was a Clippers team still coming to grips with having won the franchise's first-ever Pacific Division and finished with a team-best 56-26 record.

The task the Clippers face in trying to deal with a tough Memphis Grizzlies team has become even more daunting. There is Blake Griffin's sprained right ankle that limited the All-Star forward to about 20 minutes in the Clippers' Game 5 loss Tuesday in the Western Conference playoffs. His X-rays were negative and an MRI showed no structural damage Wednesday. But the Clippers, who trail the Grizzlies, 3-2, have listed Griffin as a game-time decision for their win-or-go-home Game 6 at Memphis on Friday.

Dwight Howard won't need off-season surgery on his shoulder. Howard was examined on Wednesday by Dr. James Tibone of the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Group, according to a Lakers news release. Tibone's assessment was that "surgery is not necessary at this time. " Howard tore the labrum in his right shoulder on Jan. 4 in a loss to the Clippers. During the season, the Lakers center sat out six games while dealing with soreness related to the tear. In late January, Howard told The Times surgery would knock him out for a lengthy period.
