About 25,000 people in the Mekong Delta were being evacuated from flooded homes threatened by landslides, officials said. Seasonal flooding, which has engulfed southern Vietnam's rice bowl since July, hit the provinces of Dong Thap and An Giang particularly hard, with 8,500 already evacuated.

Storms triggered flash floods and landslides in Vietnam and the Philippines, raising their combined death toll to at least 56, according to officials in both countries. Downpours from the worst tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year continued across central provinces, leaving 45 dead, and 17 more missing and feared dead. It has been downgraded to a depression.
