A woman found dead in a hot tub in the caretaker's house on actor Dustin Hoffman's estate drowned accidentally, authorities said Sunday. State police identified the woman as Sheilah Fionda, 43, a teacher of French and Latin at the Wykeham Rise boarding school for girls. The caretaker found the body Saturday, police said. Hoffman was not on the 92-acre estate at the time, they said, and no explanation was given for Fionda's presence there.

I am writing in regard to the article about the change of programming at radio station KUSC/91.5 FM (South, March 26). I find it to be quite disturbing. I know that we have at least one full-time jazz station, as well as three or four Latin stations here in the greater Los Angeles area. If we were limited in the number of stations here I could understand the need for broadening the format at KUSC but that isn't the case. It disturbs me greatly the way KUSC has been converted (from a traditional classical music station)

I found "Viva Miami: The Night of Super Sounds" to be disappointing. Linda Ronstadt's solo was excellent. Carlos Santana maintained a sober face throughout and his music seemed to lack vigor. Cheech Marin easily could have been eliminated and no one would have noticed. I was hoping for a little "Cherry Pink" from Herb Alpert and some exciting Latin music with perhaps some dancers as well. The only exciting performer was Maria Conchita Alonso, who danced at the beginning of the show.

I am very distressed over the article by Adam Carl criticizing my choices for cutaway shots during the recent Academy Awards ("Director's Choices Send Bad Message," April 3). He wrote: "Note to Horvitz: Spain is in Europe, Cuba is in the Caribbean. Spain is a parliamentary monarchy; Cuba is a communist dictatorship. Spain is full of Spaniards; Cuba is populated by Cubans." I'm well aware of the location of Spain. My maternal great-grandfather was born in Madrid. As for Cuba, I'm also aware of that locale: My grandfather was born in Havana.
