Legoland Florida will open in October 2011 with 50 rides, attractions and shows at the former Cypress Gardens theme park in Winter Haven, about 40 miles from Disney World . SeaWorld Orlando has announced a multi-year plan to add a 3-D movie, a swim-with-sea-life attraction and a new themed land in an effort to counter increasing competition in Florida's crowded theme park marketplace. The largest and most expensive expansion in the marine park's 38-year history comes on the heels of the successful debuts of Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 2010 and Legoland Florida in 2011. During that same period, Walt Disney World announced plans to open a Fantasyland makeover at the Magic Kingdom starting in 2012 and Avatar Land at Disney's Animal Kingdom starting in 2015.

I was honored and thrilled to be a guest on the most recent edition of the Season Pass Podcast , a weekly discussion about theme parks and roller coasters. I spoke with co-hosts Doug Barnes and Brent Young for more than an hour about past, present and future rides and attractions at theme parks in Southern California, Florida and around the world. You can listen to the podcast using the player above, at the Season Pass website or by visiting iTunes . It was a wide-ranging conversation that focused on the virtues of Disneyland , the sins of Disney California Adventure , the rise of Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the ongoing coaster war between Six Flags Magic Mountain and Ohio's Cedar Point . Along the way, we also touched upon what's new and what's next at Legoland Florida , Disney World and Hong Kong Disneyland . Toward the end of the podcast, I ran through my Top 10 new theme park attractions for 2011 (and threw in my new No. 1)

In compiling my top 10 list for Legoland California , I tried to combine must-see attractions with  one-of-a-kind rides you can’t find anywhere else. Photo Gallery : View the Top 10 Legoland California rides and attractions Legoland perfectly hits its demographic of minivan-driving soccer moms and their stroller-bound charges and 'tween siblings. The pink-knuckle rides offer a tiny dose of mild thrills for the littlest kids, who are often underserved at typical theme parks . That said, the Carlsbad kiddie park features a disappointingly high number of attractions that parents can't ride with their kids.

A tiny Orlando, Fla., family entertainment center plans to add seven attractions over the next few years in a bid to become a small amusement park with a collection of new rides that rivals its better-known neighbors. Any of the new additions - from a pair of roller coasters to a trio of towering thrill rides to a quartet of water park slides - would be the envy of any regional theme park. PHOTOS: New rides coming to Fun Spot Orlando The $20-million investment will expand the Fun Spot Action Park located along Orlando's International Drive corridor from 5 to 15 acres in three stages: The first stage will add a wooden roller coaster, a Screamin' Swing thrill ride and a double-decker carousel by February 2013.
