University of Hawaii volleyball Coach Alan Rosehill disputes a UC Irvine player's charge that Rosehill misled him about expenses and aid, thereby prompting him to transfer from Hawaii. Leland Quinn, a freshman from Ocean View High School, attended Hawaii during the fall semester but transferred to Irvine, where he is a starter on the men's volleyball team that lost Hawaii Wednesday night in Crawford Hall.

A rain-drenched ninth inning almost cost Cal State Fullerton the game, but the Titans held on to defeat Gonzaga, 8-6, Friday at Titan Field. Leading 8-3 heading into the last inning, the skies opened up and heavy rains began. Titan pitcher Jon Ward (3-2), who had been cruising, retired the first batter, then loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Ted Silva, last season's stopper, came in and walked the first batter he faced to push across a run.

Gitte Mejer scored a game-high 32 points to help Concordia to a 76-64 victory over Chapman in a nonconference women's basketball game Thursday at Chapman. Mejer, a senior center who had been averaging 36 points in her last seven games, was 12 of 18 from the field. She also had 14 rebounds for Concordia (11-8). Stacey Giem added 17 for Concordia. Melody Earle had 20 points for Chapman (3-15).

Leland Quinn had 17 kills to lead UC Irvine to a 15-13, 15-10, 15-5 nonconference men's volleyball victory over UC San Diego in front of 207 at Crawford Hall Friday night. Shahi Ghanem had 11 kills and Jason Hinchman had 43 assists as the Anteaters evened their record at 1-1. Nate Brown had 17 kills for the Tritons (0-3).

Oliver Heitmann had 23 kills and Jon Baer added 21 as fifth-ranked Cal State Northridge defeated 12th-ranked UC Irvine, 10-15, 15-8, 12-15, 16-14, 15-9, Saturday in a Mountain-Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match at Irvine. The Matadors (13-5, 10-4) won their eighth consecutive match. Leland Quinn had a school-record 50 kills for the Anteaters. MEN'S TRACK Bakersfield Invitational--Isaac Turner of Glendale College timed 1 minute 50.

Jeff Tagliaferri's three-run home run in the seventh inning enabled Long Beach State to rally for a 5-3 victory over Brigham Young in a nonconference baseball game Saturday at Blair Field. Junior transfer Kyle Wilson picked up his fifth victory against no losses with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Gabe Gonzalez struck out five in the final two innings to earn his fourth save for the 49ers (11-8-1).

Mark Kotsay scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the fifth inning to break a tie and also pitched a scoreless ninth inning to save the Titans' sixth consecutive victory, 3-2, over San Diego Wednesday night at Titan Field. John Mitchell (2-0) pitched five innings, giving up four hits, one earned run and six strikeouts to earn the victory. Tony Miranda was two for three for the Titans, ranked third in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.

Cal State Fullerton scored six runs in the fourth inning and Gabby Guerrero pitched a complete game as the Titans won, 8-3, to earn a split in a Big West Conference softball doubleheader against San Jose State Friday at Cal State Fullerton. Shannon Dolan's one-out double to right field drove in Tracie Noggle from first base and started a six-run Titan outburst, capped by Rose Garces' third home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field.

Jim Betzsold had a two-out, run-scoring double in the 11th inning to lift Cal State Fullerton to an 8-7 victory over Stanford in a nonconference baseball game Sunday at Stanford. Betzsold's double scored Bret Hemphill, who had doubled with two outs. Ted Silva (1-0), a sophomore right-hander, completed four innings of shutout relief for the victory. Cal State Fullerton (2-1) took two of three games in the season-opener for both teams.

Chris Anderson had two runs batted in and scored a run as Chapman defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-2, in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball game at Hart Park on Thursday. Chapman (4-8, 1-0 in the CCAA) trailed, 2-0, with one out in the eighth inning, when Mike Giuseffi singled and Marvin Mack doubled to put runners on second and third. Anderson then doubled to clear bases and tie the score.
