You've heard of “tainting” the vote and “corrupting” the vote. But “sexualizing the voting process”? That's what the spokeswoman for a conservative media watchdog accused President Obama of doing with a video ad that has a young Hollywood star talking about voting for the incumbent as if it were her first time having sex. In the Internet ad, titled “Your First Time,” Lena Dunham speaks to the camera and says: "The first...

" Her first time voting , sillies. What were you thinking? Oh wait, that's what you were supposed to think.

NEW YORK--Lena Dunham found her show "Girls" under criticism earlier this year for an absence of minority characters. The controversy only mushroomed after, in an apparent bid to make light of the issue, "Girls" writer Lesley Arfin tweeted sarcastically that she didn't think "Precious" offered a representation of her either. At an event Sunday hosted by the New Yorker and its TV critic Emily Nussbaum, Dunham offered some context on the incident. After saying that Arfin had actually no longer worked on the show at the time she sent the tweet, Dunham elaborated on what was happening on the "Girls" set during the controversy.

HBO took home 23 Emmy Awards on Sunday, once again the most of any network, so we'd say it deserves a drink or 22. For the cable network's Emmy party, the Pacific Design Center plaza was transformed into a psychedelic carnival of yellow florals, with miles of cheerful print fabrics, an LED kaleidoscope wall and plenty of bubbly for its big winners "Game Change" and "Veep. " Julia Louis-Dreyfus clutched her lead actress in a comedy trophy all night long, getting off her feet to have a nosh not far from Julianne Moore, who took home outstanding actress in a miniseries or movie for her portrayal of Sarah Palin.

Allison Williams said the day felt surreal to her. The stunning daughter of news anchor Brian Williams and costar of the Emmy-nominated HBO comedy series "Girls" walked the red carpet Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles in a strapless emerald green Oscar de la Renta gown. "This is just a little bit exciting," she joked, clearly thrilled. "You dream that other people will get your vision, but when they do it's hard to believe. It feels like hitting the jackpot. Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham are both at the top of their games when it comes to high quality cable drama. And, based on this (deliberately) bad talk show short, they can give Zach Galifianakis and his "Between Two Ferns" series a run for its money. The "Mad Men" star and the "Girls" creator teamed up for this short ad directed by Dunham to promote the New Yorker magazine's new iPhone app. In the ad, Hamm plays the host of an unnamed late-night talk show having an awkward interview with actress Lani Doran (played by Dunham)

The TV industry isn't accustomed to celebrating raunchy, edgy shows like "Girls,"the HBO series crafted by 26-year-old Lena Dunham. But the five Emmy nominations it grabbed Thursday reflect how television is increasingly driven by younger, hipper - and feminine - sensibilities. After years of disdain from the men who run the business ("I don't like any women comedians," Jerry Lewis famously pronounced in 1998), women are making inroads in comedy. And never has that dynamic been more evident than on cable networks, where women are free of the content restrictions of broadcast television and - beyond the surprise success of the smash female-skewing comedy feature "Bridesmaids" - of the commercial imperatives of feature films, where teenage boys still typically rule.

Emmy nomination morning is such a bittersweet moment for a television critic, like watching a wild assortment of essentially terrific high school seniors collectively discover the results of their college applications. Some of it is predictable - oh, look,"Mad Men"breaks another record! Some of it is patently absurd - really, no"Parks and Recreation,"no "Walking Dead?" And much of it feels vaguely arbitrary, the inevitable result of too much competition for too few slots. Still, there are always a few standout happy/sad/I don't get it moments, and here are a few of them, starting with the good stuff: Let's hear it for "Hatfields & McCoys": With 16 nominations, ladies and gentlemen, it is just one away from the two toppers, "Mad Men" and "American Horror Story.
