Pete Rose may be baseball's nonpareil hit-maker, but he's a pariah in many quarters, starting with a commissioner's office that has him No. 1 on its enemies' list. Babe Ruth, pre-Hank Aaron, was the home run champion, albeit a carousing womanizer who gave hot dogs a bad name. Paul Hornung was truly the Golden Boy from Green Bay, but he outlasted the lights in many an NFL city, and did time on the sidelines for being too chummy with gamblers.
