A few words of sincere concern to ballcarriers in the Garden Grove League this football season: Let's hope Rancho Alamitos linebacker Lia Togia doesn't mistake you for a hamburger. "I ate 16 Big Macs in one sitting one time," said Togia, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior. "They were on sale for 99 cents each. I started with five, then went up to 13. I didn't have much money left, so I stopped."

OUTLOOK Gone from the Vaquero roster because of graduation are quarterback Chris Singletary and tailback Ulysses Trammell, who led the county in rushing last season with 1,548 yards. But Miller thinks he has two speedsters among his 17 returning players who should handle those two spots more than adequately. One is Brown, an all-league receiver last year with 10.

Rancho Alamitos defeated Azusa, 29-6, Friday night to advance to the second round of the Division VI playoffs. Coach Mark Miller was just happy he had enough players to finish the game. The Vaqueros (9-1-1) lost no less than six starters to injuries during the game. Starting running back Jeff Byrd, the county's leading rusher, left the game with 1 minute 40 seconds left to play in the third period with a possible concussion suffered on his three-yard touchdown run.

Another game. Another mangled victim. Another superb night for Ulysses Trammell. That pretty much summarizes Rancho Alamitos High School football games this season. And Rancho Alamitos' 54-20 blowout of Los Amigos Thursday at Bolsa Grande was no exception.

Is an unusual skin disorder making Michael Jackson whiter? "Give me a break," answered Sandy Levine, a student at Golden West College, when asked Thursday about the singer's claims in his televised interview with Oprah Winfrey. "He seemed so fake," Levine said. "It just didn't seem like he was telling the truth." Skepticism about Jackson's claims of a skin-lightening disorder was widespread among a group of about two dozen students interviewed at random on the Huntington Beach campus.
