While L.A. dance fans are prepping their sunscreen and skimpy attire for Coachella, another Southland electronica festival has announced a lineup worth noting. The Do LaB's annual Lightning in a Bottle made its poster official today, and it features some unexpected top billings. Nicolas Jaar, the young jazz-infused experimentalist who stunned a sold-out Echoplex last year , leads a pack of electronic acts that includes the reggae-dabbling dubstep auteur Rusko, Tycho's psychedelic meditations and the globe-trotting acid house vet Lee Burridge.

Pluses The rich got richer Sunday when the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired left wing Brenden Morrow and a third-round draft pick from the Dallas Stars for touted defense prospect Joe Morrow and a fifth-round pick. The Penguins, winners of 12 straight games, had enough young depth on defense to make a move that positions them to win the East. Brenden Morrow, the Stars' classy captain and a free-agent-to-be, waived his no-trade clause. This is one of those rare deals that should help both sides.

It was 20 years ago Friday that a bright-eyed, former NBA executive named Gary Bettman officially became the NHL's first commissioner. His self-proclaimed mission: to spread the little-known gospel of hockey and duplicate the boom the NBA experienced by stabilizing the NHL's economic underpinnings and making stars of its underappreciated players. "The fans don't want to read about labor negotiations," Bettman said during his first week on the job. "They want to read game stories and stories about people.

The teenage coming-of-age story gets an ever-so-slight tweak in "Struck by Lightning," written by and starring "Glee" performer Chris Colfer, whose character is, in fact, struck dead by lightning in the film's opening moments. Nevertheless he narrates the tale, looking back on his life up to that moment. Turns out Colfer's Carson was a perennial outsider for his literary ambitions and desire to break free of the small town social hierarchy of his high school. Genial and heartfelt but essentially toothless, lacking in either snark or spark, "Lightning" is directed by Brian Dannelly, who previously made the 2004 high school religious satire "Saved" before moving into television work, which seems to have leveled out his style into a flat competence.

Skateboard legend Danny Way is the subject of a new documentary, "Waiting for Lightning" by Jake Rosenberg, which follows his career from childhood to a spectacular 2005 jump over the Great Wall of China. The native Californian based in Encinitas is known for imagining and executing extraordinary jumps, such as his 2008 "bomb drop" from a helicopter onto a ramp. The documentary is structured around your jump over the Great Wall of China . How long had you had that dream and what prompted it?

"Waiting for Lightning" is a portrait of the extreme-sports superstar Danny Way, centered on his 2005 effort to leap over the Great Wall of China on a skateboard using an enormous megaramp to accomplish the stunt. Unfortunately, the athlete himself simply isn't much of a presence in this documentary, even as the film aims to celebrate him. Why it took some seven years to bring this story to screen is unclear. As the film uses the buildup and preparations to the jump as its structuring spine, people speak of Way as if he's already dead, often talking for him when he could be responding for himself (he is still alive and well and interviewed in the film)

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez was the poster child for the Yankees' collapse in the American League Championship Series, though in terms of futility, he had tons of company. The team, after all, batted only .157 while being swept by the Tigers. Give A-Rod some credit. His .111 batting average in the playoffs was 55 points higher than that of second baseman Robinson Cano, who batted a nifty .056. But A-Rod, with $100 million left on his contract, became the focus of the fall and only increased the spotlight on himself when word leaked out that he had sent a couple of baseballs into the stands to try to get the phone numbers from two young women.

Oliver Sacks turns brain anomalies into suspense thrillers, with synaptic gaps as cliffhangers. Now Kathryn Walat, perhaps inspired by the good doctor's “Musicophilia,” follows similar neural pathways to explore the deepest changes of heart. “Creation,” her world premiere drama at the Theatre at Boston Court, plays as an elegant if subdued case study in chemical romance. On holiday celebrating his 40th birthday, evolutionary biologist Ian (Johnathan McClain) is struck by lightning but miraculously revived by his pathologist wife, Sarah (Deborah Puette)
