Update: The Kings made it official, taking defenseman Drew Doughty off injured reserve Saturday morning and sending rookie defenseman Slava Voynov back to Manchester (N.H.) of the American Hockey League. Doughty sat out two weeks because of an injured right shoulder. The Avalanche is responsible for one of the odder trends at this early stage of the season.

The NHL has already canceled the first 14 days of the season. As Elliott wrote last week , "The Kings , who were scheduled to raise their Stanley Cup banner Oct. 12 at Staples Center , will lose six games, four of them at home.

Update: Chivas is coming off a 2-2 result at D.C. United on Wednesday night but remains without a win in the last seven games, going 0-4-3. One positive note: Defender Heath Pearce returned to the lineup earlier than expected after a hamstring injury. Striker Juan Pablo Angel, who was acquired from the Galaxy on Aug. 17 for a future draft pick, has four goals in five games since joining Chivas.

  Times columnist Helene Elliott, hockey writer Lisa Dillman and Deputy Sports Editor John Cherwa take part in a live Google+ hangout today at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the NHL lockout. As Elliott wrote recently, "The collective bargaining agreement the league negotiated with the NHL Players' Assn. expires Sept. 15, and the league is again pushing hard for substantial givebacks by players. No new deal, no new season, leaving the hockey world to face the third league-imposed lockout since 1994.

Update: The Rockets' Carl Landry, doing his best imitation of a hockey player trying to return to the lineup, is listed as day to day. Landry lost five teeth and spent five hours with a dentist after a freakish accident involving Dirk Nowitzki's right elbow on Friday night.

Update: The Clippers, success-impaired against the Spurs, move on to face another daunting opponent, the Hornets. They've lost 12 straight games to New Orleans, including three this season. Through its first six home games, Chivas USA had produced only one victory, three losses and two ties going into Saturday night's game against Portland at the Home Depot Center. "These fans deserve better," Chivas midfielder Ben Zemanski said after the latest lackluster home performance, a 1-1 draw against Vancouver on Wednesday. "We need to play aggressive in front of them, and go for wins in front of them, and we need to show them that. We need to figure out how to get wins at home.

Update: Big leads blown, a continuing series. The only Clippers-Knicks meeting this season, on Dec. 18 in New York, featured another squandered lead as the Knicks came back from a 20-point deficit. The Knicks have lost their last four games, and the Clippers had dropped their last three before Saturday night's game at Denver.
