Shortstop Diana Barreras, who helped Pacifica reach the Southern Section Division III championship game, will represent the North tonight at the Orange County North-South all-star softball game, presented by Soroptimist International of Brea/La Habra. The South will have four players from the Division I final: Mater Dei's Tia Bollinger and Jessica Gonzalez, and Foothill's Amber Dragomir and Rachel Kitchens. Game time at Brea Olinda High is 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children.

Rich Boyce is leaving Estancia to take over the Edison boys' basketball program, Edison Athletic Director Bruce Belcher said Monday. Boyce went 64-45 in four seasons at Estancia. He replaces Corey Kelly, who left after four seasons at Edison to pursue other teaching options. Belcher also announced that Geoff Bell is taking over the girls' program. Bell was an assistant under Dave White at Edison for two seasons. White resigned to spend more time with his family.

Even at the bare-bones level, film is such a cumbersome art, so dependent on mechanics, logistics and throngs of people, that it's a surprise and a pleasure to discover a new writer-director capable of almost casually bending it all to his or her will. Lisa Krueger is that kind of a filmmaker. Her "Manny & Lo" is an unapologetically small but wholly original movie, warm-hearted but not precious, and possessed of a gently wacky sensibility.

That's Joline (Heather Graham) speaking, and given that she's tattooed her wedding ring on her finger, there's little doubt she's one of them. What happens in "Committed," Lisa Krueger's wry comic fable about love and yes, commitment, is going to test Joline's belief system something fierce.

Lisa Krueger's single scored Jessica Vernaglia in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to give Aliso Niguel a 1-0 victory over ninth-ranked Laguna Hills and a share of the Pacific Coast League softball title. The Wolverines claimed a share of first place for the third time in their six-year history. Laguna Hills, which won a share of the league championship for the eighth time in nine years, had won 11 games in a row and had gone 13-0-1 in its last 14.

Mater Dei's Tia Bollinger and Fountain Valley's Natalie King, the county's two most dominant senior pitchers, are expected to face each other tonight in the first Orange County Coaches All-Star Classic. Bollinger and King finished 1-2 in strikeouts this season, and are likely to go the first three innings of the nine-inning game at Col. Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Game time is 7 p.m. The park is located at the Irvine Civic Center at the corner of Harvard Road and Alton Parkway.

Two Ventura County women have pleaded guilty to voter fraud for, among other charges, submitting dead people's names as newly registered Republicans. Angela Robinson-Adams of Ventura and Lisa Marie Krueger of Oxnard were promised probation in exchange for their guilty pleas to six felony charges, Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert D. Meyers said Friday. They are scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 20 by Superior Court Judge Allan L. Steele.
