Sunday, you had a front-page story on Joe Bryant, who coaches the Sparks. That night, Lisa Leslie scored 41 points and became the first woman in WNBA history to score 5,000 points, the Sparks won their eighth game in a row ... and The Times buried the story on the ninth page. It would be nice if The Times would give Lisa Leslie and the Sparks the respect they deserve. TERRI K. TAYLOR Westminster

USC's Lisa Leslie was named national women's player of the year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Assn. The 6-foot-5 senior from Inglewood is the Pacific 10 Conference's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. UCLA's Natalie Williams was also named to the 10-player USBA All-American team.
