For one goofy moment after Murphy Brown announced that she was pregnant, WBZ-TV news anchor Liz Walker thought that maybe the show's producers had stolen her life. After all, Walker had ignited a controversy of her own five years ago when she disclosed that she was expecting a baby--and that she had no intention of revealing the identity of the child's father, much less of marrying him.

An unmarried, pregnant news anchorwoman in Boston is receiving overwhelming support from viewers after she announced that she had no plans to marry. Liz Walker, 36, evening news anchor at WBZ-TV, NBC's local affiliate, made her announcement in June, station director Stan Hopkins told Broadcasting magazine. Since then, he said "viewers have written in about the situation and they are overwhelmingly supportive. They respect the fact a woman has made a decision on the issue and is responsible."

BOSTON -- At 2:49 p.m. exactly Tuesday, Boston observed a moment of silence to commemorate the minute the first bomb exploded a year ago at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. A solemn bell tolled in drizzling rain, a choir sang the national anthem and many in the crowd saluted or bowed their heads. Destruction tore through the finish line of the Boston Marathon a year ago, killing three and seriously injuring hundreds of others. But victims and Boston leaders did not focus on the destruction that two bombs heaved on the city during a tribute event on Tuesday in the Hynes Convention Center, directly across the street from the scene of the attacks.

When they arrived arm-in-arm at the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards last May 20, a buzz swept through the startled crowd. Many people gawked. At least one man dropped his cocktail. The worst-kept secret in local TV news was now out in public. With a simple show of togetherness, KCBS-TV co-anchors Bree Walker and Jim Lampley confirmed what their colleagues had been whispering for months: that while married to other people, the pair had become L.A.'s most visible office romance.
