Bail was reduced on Friday for a Santa Monica police officer accused of swindling a woman out of $7,500 by posing as a hit man. Kenneth Maurice Scott, 41, was arrested Thursday on charges of conspiracy to defraud another of property, grand theft and receiving stolen goods. According to the district attorney's office, Scott--using the assumed name Lorenzo Wright--agreed to perform a contract killing for Sheila Holden Hamilton.

A Santa Monica police officer pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he posed as a contract killer and pocketed the $7,500 hit fee. Bail was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000 for Officer Kenneth Maurice Scott, 41, who faces charges of conspiracy to defraud another of property, grand theft and possessing stolen goods. Scott must submit to electronic monitoring after posting bail.

A Santa Monica police officer faces arraignment today on charges he masqueraded as a contract killer and pocketed a $7,500 hit fee, authorities said. Kenneth Maurice Scott, 41, was arrested Thursday by Beverly Hills police after a five-month investigation. Scott was ordered held on $250,000 bail and scheduled for arraignment in Beverly Hills Court this morning.

Shandon Anderson tied his career high with 35 points as the Houston Rockets beat Phoenix, 107-98, Tuesday night at Phoenix and hurt the Suns' bid for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Penny Hardaway's first triple double since 1994 wasn't enough for the Suns, who fell behind by 17 in the first half, battled back to tie it in the fourth quarter, then were outscored, 20-11, over the final 8 1/2 minutes. Hardaway had 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.
