Lori Loughlin is "excited, nervous, scared." The reason is her Los Angeles stage debut in Howard Korder's "Boys' Life" (opening Friday at the St. Genesius Theatre), an ensemble battle-of-the-sexes comedy in which Loughlin plays a romance-scarred woman who runs into her old lover at a party. "I feel like I'm eight steps behind everyone else, because I haven't done a lot of theater," admits the actress, who plays John Stamos' wife, Rebecca, on ABC's "Full House."

For a while there, it seemed as if Lori Loughlin's celebrity might be frozen in time. As a 27-year-old struggling actress, she was cast as Rebecca Donaldson, the uber-perky wife of John Stamos' character, Jesse Katsopolis, on "Full House," a wildly popular (and critically panned) ABC sitcom whose nine-year run established the Long Island native as a major TV star. But when "Full House" finally ended in 1995, so, it appeared, did Loughlin's. Save for the occasional guest star appearance, she seemed to have vanished.

Except that it interfered with my sleep -- since I had to write this review immediately after the broadcast premiere Tuesday night -- I was not personally put out by the fact that the CW did not make available ahead of time the first (or any) episode of "90210," the spinoff/sequel to that touchstone of end-of-the-20th-century culture, "Beverly Hills, 90210." The decision to forgo advance reviews is often read as a tacit admission that a show is bad. This show actually is not bad; it is what it is, and that's all that it is. I can see why the network wanted to keep a tight rein on the rollout, so as not to kill the buzz it so carefully, doggedly engineered.

The blue wall of silence--otherwise known as a police department's code of silence--costs a female officer her job and very nearly her life in the TV movie "One of Her Own." A spirited, enthusiastic rookie cop (the absorbing Lori Loughlin, in a sharp departure from her role on ABC's "Full House") is reduced to emotional paralysis after she is raped in her own home by a veteran officer with whom she has been casual buddies on a very macho, small-town police force.
