Mayor Richard Riordan will oppose any new fees for mandatory brush-clearance inspections, an aide said Thursday, adding weight to the demands of many San Fernando Valley residents who protested the last time the city tried to charge for the service. City Administrative Officer Bill Fujioka recommended Thursday that fees be reinstated to cover the $1.7-million cost of the program. In a report to the City Council, Fujioka said the fee should be $17 for each parcel inspected by the Fire Department.

The bitter feud between Mayor Richard Riordan and the city's chief administrative officer, Bill Fujioka, has escalated, with the mayor's staff refusing to give the city's fiscal analyst a summary of Riordan's proposed 2000-2001 budget. Fujioka said he was informed by workers at the city's print shop Monday that he was not allowed to have a copy of the document, which is due out later this week. "The bottom line is this is pettiness," Fujioka said. "We should all be working together."

Six years after voters approved funds for a new 911 dispatch center to replace the city's antiquated system, the Board of Public Works next week will consider approval of the long-delayed project for a West Hills site. In deciding to put the question on its Wednesday agenda, the board took sides in a dispute between the mayor, who adamantly wants to move ahead with the plan, and the city's top bureaucrat, who wants more time to study an alternative site in Sun Valley.
