Designers Mitch Moseley and David Hershberger prove the old cliche is true: If you have a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Their passion is the 3-year-old Endovanera line of tailored menswear, which looks as cool at a Parisian boulangerie as it does on West 3rd Street. The designers recently enlisted the help of friends to transform a dire-looking Echo Park space into the new home for their studio and first retail store.

L.A. Live, the $2.5-billion, 4-million-square-foot "sports, entertainment and residential district" next to Staples Center, is in the midst of the second phase of its rolling openings. This latest push involves 10 of the 15 restaurants and clubs that make up the site, which launched in October 2007 with the Nokia Theatre presenting six nights of the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks. Much like Universal CityWalk, the Grove and the Hollywood & Highland complex, L.A.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a -- car? At this year's Greater L.A. Auto Show, swooping silver lines, bullet-nosed fronts and wheels jumbo enough to take to the tarmac might prompt even the savviest of L.A.'s car culture to look twice. The Maserati Birdcage is a stealth operation speeding over the ground, and the BMW's hydrogen-powered H2R Record Car resembles a lead sled screeching down a white slope. Rev your engines. A new study that will probably reinvigorate a decades-old debate about mass transit in Los Angeles concludes that bringing back streetcars to downtown would spur more development and attract riders. It also contends that trolleys could peaceably share the road with cars. The report, expected to be released this week by the Community Redevelopment Agency, also makes another point: Reintroduced trolleys have met with success in many other cities, and there's no reason they can't in Los Angeles.

A plan for placing 40,000 square feet of billboards and other outdoor signs on the Los Angeles Convention Center was approved Thursday by the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, despite a request from City Atty. Carmen Trutanich to delay the vote. Trutanich sent the commission a letter earlier this week saying he wanted two weeks to review the proposal, which would allow more than a dozen billboards to face the congested 10 and 110 freeway interchange on the edge of downtown.

More than 50,000 homeowners are expected to begin streaming through the Los Angeles Convention Center today, hoping for a hand in restructuring their mortgages or avoiding foreclosure. The free five-day event, running through Monday, is organized by Boston-based Neighborhood Assistance Corp. of America. NACA hosted similar meetings nationwide this summer that attracted more than 180,000 participants. Counselors at 360 computer stations will scan homeowners' mortgage documents and send electronic files to nearly 2,000 on-site servicers and lenders, including representatives from Wells Fargo & Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Bank of America Corp.
