Flight restrictions: An article in Friday's Section A about flight restrictions during President Obama's visit to Los Angeles reported that private pilots were temporarily barred from flying into, out of or near Los Angeles International Airport and a number of other area airports. The restrictions applied to unscheduled commercial flights as well.

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 was felt in southern parts of Los Angeles on Monday evening. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake hit at 9:14 p.m. and was centered near Los Angeles International Airport. There were no reports of damage or injuries shortly after the quake. -- Mitchell Landsberg

Sheriff Lee Baca endorsed Mayor James K. Hahn's $9-billion modernization plan for Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday. The sheriff said he believes Hahn's proposal would make the world's fifth-busiest airport more secure, in part by banning private vehicles from the airport's horseshoe-shaped access road. Baca joins other prominent law enforcement officials who have given Hahn's plan a thumbs up. The city's airport agency is conducting a public comment period on the plan through Nov. 7.

Fines will soon quadruple to $60 for drivers who leave cars unattended curbside at Los Angeles International Airport, a spokeswoman said Thursday. The intent is to keep traffic moving around the U-shaped terminal where cars, taxis and buses are constantly shuttling passengers to and from flight gates, airport spokeswoman Nancy Niles said. The price increase was originally set to take effect Sunday, amid the busy Labor Day weekend.

Prime Time Shuttle, the state's second-largest airport van service, will keep its license to operate despite violations of airport rules, the state Public Utilities Commission has decided. The PUC stopped short of revoking Prime Time's license at its meeting Aug. 2, instead voting 5 to 0 to give the Sun Valley van service another chance to comply with a Los Angeles International Airport ban against the use of independent drivers, PUC spokeswoman Kyle Devine said.

Inglewood officials are demanding that the Department of Airports resume collecting a $3 passenger tax so that homes surrounding Los International Airport can be soundproofed. Assemblyman Curtis Tucker (D-Inglewood) announced Tuesday that he introduced legislation to force the Department of Airports to resume collection of the fee which he says generated $5 million per month. The money collected was to be used for soundproofing, transportation and other airport improvement projects.

The executive director of the city Airports Department will discuss the status of the Los Angeles International Airport master plan and its impact on Van Nuys and Burbank airports at a meeting Friday of the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn. Executive Director Jack Driscoll will talk about the master plan, which will be a blueprint for airport growth.
