The Los Angeles Times said Thursday that its weekly World Report section will be published every Saturday in the English-language edition of Japan's largest newspaper, the Yomiuri Shimbun. The agreement with the Daily Yomiuri represents the first time a foreign newspaper will publish the World Report section, which covers international affairs, trends and cultures. The section will debut in Tokyo on Saturday with the May 21 special edition of World Report, "Power on the Pacific Rim."

Television ratings and financially strapped news budgets have a large influence on the media's coverage of international issues and other world events, according to a panel of experts speaking in Camarillo. "We are in a fight for our lives," said Heather Allan, bureau chief for NBC News in Los Angeles, addressing 100 people at the event sponsored Tuesday by the World Affairs Council of Ventura County. "It comes down to money and viewership."
