Hoping the second time around will be better than the first, the Arena Football League announced Thursday that it will return to Los Angeles, beginning June 6 at the Sports Arena. The new team will be the Los Angeles Wings, with Joe Kapp as coach and director of football operations. The league tried the Los Angeles market in 1988, when the Cobras played for one season at the Sports Arena.

Plans to field a Los Angeles team in the Arena Football League this summer have been canceled, according to Jim Hartman, president of the franchise. The team, returning to Los Angeles after a three-year absence, was to open a 10-game season June 6 in the Sports Arena. Thirty players under contract to the Attack were scheduled to begin training camp under Coach Joe Kapp on May 9.
