New York State's $73-million Lotto jackpot will be divided among four winners who will each receive $18 million over 21 years, lottery officials said. Two of the winning tickets were sold in New York City's borough of Queens and the other two were sold upstate. Annual payments will be $863,095 before taxes. Officials said it was the largest jackpot in state history.

Short-order cook Johnnie Ely came to work at 4 a.m. just as he always did, but this time it wasn't to make omelets. It was to tell his boss that he had just hit a $100-million lottery jackpot. The 66-year-old man from the South Bronx won the New Year's Eve Millennium Millions, the biggest jackpot in New York history. "I told him, 'What are you doing here? Go home,' " said Winston Willer, manager of The Java Shop in Manhattan. Ely opted for a lump-sum payment of $44 million.

The holders of 12 state lottery tickets are entitled to share a record jackpot of more than $45 million, officials said Sunday. The holders of the $1 Lotto tickets beat odds of nearly 13 million to 1. Each ticket is worth $3.75 million, to be paid at the rate of $142,857 (after taxes) annually for the next 20 years.

"If I won, I'd probably pay off all my debt, all my friends' debt and all my family's debt," said Karen Iocca, an administrative assistant from New Jersey, who bought a handful of Lotto tickets for the 11:21 p.m. EDT drawing. The odds of winning are 12.9 million to one, said Ric Grenell, a spokesman for New York State Lottery.
