The National Manufactured Housing Institute-- manufactured housing is a fancy term for mobile homes--has nominated one of the company's subsidiaries as 1991 developer of the year. Ashbrooke, a 238-unit move-up single-family development by Lyon Communities Inc., opens today in the Gordon Ranch planned development in Chino Hills. The first phase of 17 four- and five-bedroom houses is offered in four two-story plans with 2,100 to 2,546 square feet, priced from $249,990 to $318,990. Ashbrooke is the second of four planned Lyon developments in Gordon Ranch. Features include 2 1/2-3 baths and three-car garages. First move-ins are planned for October.

Lyon Communities Inc. will be previewing model homes in three sections of single-family homes at Pacific Ridge, a new neighborhood in the hills of Aliso Viejo in south Orange County. The Breeze homes, designed especially for young families, are two-storied and have 3 and 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Prices range from $269,990 to $299,990.

D/D Development Co. of Brea will build 30 estate homes on half-acre and acre equestrian lots on a 30-acre parcel it purchased from the Orange Unified School District for just under $4.9 million. The single-family homes will be built in the single-level California style, with circular drives leading to three- or four-car garages. Interior space will average 4,000 square feet. The parcel is located on Santago Canyon Road at Windes Drive and was to be a junior high school site.

The Southland's newest large-scale development, Foothill Ranch, opens today in Orange County's Saddleback Valley with 23 model homes in seven of its 17 neighborhoods. A total of 3,900 homes are planned eventually. The single-family houses from Bramalea Homes, Lyon Communities Inc. and J.M. Peters Co. will sell for $210,000 to $390,000 in the first increment of the $3-billion development.

Besides a dozen or so large ranch houses and a few scattered neighborhoods, south Corona is a land of tree farms, lemon and orange groves and well-weathered roads. But within the next 20 years, city officials say, it will be the site of Corona's newest planned communities, with a total of up to 12,500 homes stretching south into the lower Santa Ana foothills.

The Lusk Co. has announced plans for a $48-million residential neighborhood on 21.5 acres within the Calabasas Park community. Palatino at Calabasas Park will consist of 120 detached patio homes behind private gates and situated on the hills above the 18-hole Calabasas Park Country Club. The two-story homes in the first phase will be priced in the low $400,000s. Sales are scheduled to start in late summer. Information Center Construction has begun on a $1.5-million dome-topped Spanish-classical information center for the Rancho del Rey master-planned community in Chula Vista.
