In what he called the sweet part of a bittersweet day, Ronald Reagan flew home to California with his wife, Nancy, on Friday, enjoying a silver-screen Los Angeles welcome after a stately but impassioned Washington farewell. Citizens Ronald and Nancy Reagan emerged from their last official flight on the presidential jet at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Los Angeles International Airport with picture-perfect waves for a homecoming rally of 700 fans organized by Reagan's White House staff.

Even in the world of Washington power brokers and lobbyists, the sudden wealth of Michael K. Deaver, President Reagan's former aide and confidant, is nothing short of stupendous. Since he resigned 11 months ago as deputy White House chief of staff, Deaver has parlayed his access to top Administration officials into a lobbying and public relations business with more than a dozen corporate and foreign clients that pay the fledgling firm $4.5 million a year.

A political committee spearheaded by House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) collected more than $7 million over a five-year period, much of it by soliciting large donations from corporate executives with major interests pending before the federal government, records show. The GOP Action Committee (GOPAC) played a significant role in the election of a Republican majority to Congress last fall by recruiting and supporting local candidates.

Last New Year's Eve, Donald T. Regan, confronting yet another suggestion that he was in danger of losing his job as White House chief of staff, snapped that only Ronald Reagan could fire him, and the President "seems satisfied with the job I'm doing."
