Stylist-turned-designer Magda Berliner doesn't like splashy and over-the-top productions. She likes to keep things low-key and humble, characteristics her immigrant parents taught her as a kid to never forget, no matter what she ended up doing with her life. No loud music blared at her first runway show, a small, intimate affair, staged in the idyllic garden of the Sunset Marquis Hotel. There was only the sweet music of a violinist backed by a gentle breeze rustling through the trees.

NEW YORK -- The Collection: Manners and style blogger, prepster and all-around Southern charmer K. Cooper Ray has parlayed his collaborative capsule collection of neckwear with Brooks Brothers into his own standalone line -- Social Primer by K. Cooper Ray -- which debuted Friday at the University Club in Manhattan during New York Fashion Week. The inspiration: "I saw local college kids in Charleston polished and groomed and bow-tied and then they turn around and they've got their camo on and shotguns over their shoulder, heading off to the marshes of the low country to go duck hunting," Ray wrote in his presentation notes.

So now that the runway shows are over, what's the future of L.A. fashion week? "If you build buzz, they will come," said David Caruso, marketing director at IMG. The sports and entertainment marketing firm is planning to produce fashion shows for the first time here in November. The shows will probably take place over a couple of days rather than a week, Caruso said Tuesday in L.A.

As the fall fashion shows continue, this week winding their way to Milan, the final details for next month's runway shows in L.A. are still being ironed out. The most hotly anticipated event is being organized by 7th on Sixth, the same outfit that stages New York's Fashion Week at Bryant Park. "Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A." will take place April 1 through 4 at the Downtown Standard Hotel, with three runways that will cost designers $750 to $3,500 to rent (compared to $20,000 at Bryant Park).
