A pre-dawn fire caused $50,000 damage to the Good, the Bad and the Ugly Pizza Co. in Huntington Beach, authorities said. A jogger in the area of the restaurant in the 19100 block of Magnolia Avenue, saw smoke coming from the building about 5:50 a.m., Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Poe said. The fire started in a small storage room and was beginning to spread into the attic when 16 firefighters contained it shortly after 6 a.m., Poe said. About 10% of the building was destroyed.

A fire swept through a vacant restaurant and adjoining law office in the 9000 block of Bolsa Avenue near Magnolia Avenue, the Westminster Fire Department reported Friday. The blaze, which occurred at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, caused no injuries, and its monetary damage to structure and contents had not been determined, fire officials said Friday. The fire started in the restaurant at 9091 Bolsa Ave. and spread to the law office at 9087 Bolsa Ave., officials said.

Traffic was stalled for four hours early Saturday morning after construction workers on the Metropolitan Transit Authority's Blue Line accidentally drilled into a main gas line under Lankershim Boulevard near Magnolia Avenue. The gas leak, which occurred at 2:30 a.m., forced police to barricade the area and detour traffic around the site. No one was injured and no residents were evacuated, police said. The construction crew repaired the gas leak later Saturday morning, police said.

The California Highway Patrol closed off the eastbound lanes on the Riverside Freeway on Sunday night between Brookhurst Road and Magnolia Avenue and diverted traffic to southbound Interstate 5 after a truck spilled 79,000 pounds of sludge. The lanes were closed off at about 10 p.m. Sunday. The spill came about an hour after the CHP had to close off the southbound lanes on Interstate 5 at Camino de Estrella in San Clemente after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

A man burned to death on the Santa Ana Freeway on Monday after apparently losing control of his car just south of Magnolia Avenue in Fullerton, police said. The man was burned beyond recognition when his 1986 Suzuki Samurai apparently went out of control about 8:20 p.m., hit a guardrail and burst into flames. Passersby trying to rescue him were kept away by the fire, said Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. The accident is under investigation, he said.

In an effort to provide a smoother ride at some railroad crossings in the city, road repairs are continuing, most recently on Dale Avenue between Katella and Cerritos Avenue. The following streets will be affected as work continues: Magnolia Avenue on Monday, Katella Avenue on Aug. 24, Western Avenue on Aug. 31 and Beach Boulevard on Sept. 7. Workers will repair signal arms, tracks and concrete panels. The repairs will take up to five days to complete at each location.
