Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison is following up his purchase of a Hawaiian island with a regional airline to get to and from the tropical paradise. Ellison bought 98% of the island of Lanai in June from Los Angeles billionaire David Murdock. The exact purchase price of the deal has not been disclosed but local observers value the 141-square-mile island at more than $500 million. A holding company owned by Ellison took control Wednesday of Island Air, a regional carrier serving airports on all major Hawaiian islands.

A shallow magnitude 2.7 earthquake was reported Friday morning one mile from Malibu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 1:37 a.m. PDT at a depth of 6.8 miles. According to the USGS, the epicenter was six miles from Malibu Beach, nine miles from Agoura Hills and 10 miles from Agoura. In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby. Read more about Southern California earthquakes . Oracle Corp. head Larry Ellison is buying yet another house along Malibu's Carbon Beach. This will be his 10th residential purchase along the coveted stretch of sand called Billionaires' Beach for its wealthy homeowners. The seller is film and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The beachfront house, which was not listed for sale, has 70 feet of ocean frontage, three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,239 square feet of living space, public records show. The sales price is not known at this time.

Actor Pierce Brosnan has sold his Malibu beach retreat for $2.6 million. Brosnan and his wife, environmental activist and former broadcast journalist Keely Shaye Smith, put the property on the market at $3.9 million in 2010 while building another house nearby. The gated Mediterranean they sold has separate space for use as an office or media room and sits on more than a quarter of an acre with lawn space and a courtyard fountain. The flower boxes and hydrangea-lined pathways may have been a nod to Brosnan's Irish roots.

Forever "Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson has listed her spot in Malibu for $7.75 million. The two-story home, built in 1959, features teak siding, a stone front gate, a courtyard planted with olive trees and lavender, open-plan interiors, five bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,752 square feet of living space. Anderson, 45, is a former Playboy Playmate of the month.  She went on to star in five years of “Baywatch” (1992-97), “V.I.P.” (1998-2002) and “Stacked” (2005-6)

Entered through a courtyard with a koi pond, the nearly 2,100-square-foot contemporary Mediterranean includes three en suite bedrooms and a powder room. The beachfront deck features a cabana, a spa, an outdoor shower and a fire pit. Murphy, 46, co-created "American Horror Story" (2011-present) and created "Nip/Tuck" (2003-10). He wrote and directed the movie "Eat Pray Love" (2010)

Known for the variety of the roles he plays, Leonardo DiCaprio now is trying his hand at Malibu beach house landlord. He has listed his oceanfront Cape Cod-inspired home for $75,000 a month for a long-term tenant or $150,000 a month for leases of less than six months. His Malibu Colony compound was recently remodeled and features a four-bedroom main house on the ocean side, a two-bedroom guest house and a detached loft with gym. There is a beach-front deck, a fire pit, gardens and lawn on the less-than-half-acre lot. DiCaprio, 37, whose blockbuster hits include "Titanic" (1997)

In a decision closely watched by environmentalists and property rights advocates, the California Coastal Commission has rejected for the second time in 13 months a developer's plans to build luxury homes on a private Malibu beach. The 8-3 vote last week to reject Norman Haynie's plans to build up to 16 houses on pristine Lechuza Beach left opponents, including dozens of residents whose million-dollar views would have been affected, jubilant.

In 2001, she bought a house there. Now she has the itch to move again. She listed her 2,300-square-foot home, in the gated Malibu Colony, at $6.5 million. Has Anderson lost interest in the beach? Area real estate agents say she just wants more privacy.

Being super-rich just isn't what it used to be. As the summer leasing scene in Malibu wraps up, real estate experts report that for homeowners the rental season smelled worse than a red tide at morning. "It was a disastrous leasing season," said Michael Gardner, an agent with Prudential Malibu Realty. "The renters needed to save money, and the lessors needed to make money. " Of course, a bad deal for a homeowner means a good deal for someone looking for temporary refuge by the beach.

In 1956, Terry "Tubesteak" Tracy, freshly fired from his job at a downtown insurance company, bid goodbye to the 9-to-5 life and headed for the Malibu shore, where he built himself a shack out of wood scraps and palm fronds and sailed into surfing history. He was, according to surfing historian Matt Warshaw, a decent surfer, but his ticket to glory wasn't what he did on a board: It was the aesthetic he embraced. Tracy, better known by the nickname "Tubesteak," was the personification of the rebellious surf subculture that emerged in California in the late 1950s.

Nailing down the facts in two June brawls between paparazzi and Malibu locals would seem to be as easy as a mouse click. Video and still cameras captured the beach fracases from multiple angles, and the footage was posted online for all to see. But a month later, much remains unclear. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has not charged anyone in the incidents, and one surfer says a knife wielded by a paparazzo was edited out of the video sold to Internet gossip sites.

Jim Carrey, who stars in the upcoming movie "Bruce Almighty," has purchased a Malibu home on the beach for about $9.5 million. Carrey had been renting in Venice and has had a Pacific Palisades home, which he bought in 1994 for $4 million. The Malibu home was a mid-century modern that had been refurbished and expanded. It has three bedrooms, including a master suite on the water, and a maid's quarters in 4,000 to 4,500 square feet.
