At least two sea lions that died from gunshot wounds have washed ashore in Malibu this month, wildlife rescuers said. Illegal shootings of sea lions occur each year in October when squid fishing season begins, Jonsie Ross at the California Wildfire Center  told CBS Los Angeles . The Malibu Times reported that two of the ocean mammals found on the coast had died of bullet wounds and that a third bore suspicious injuries. CBS Los Angeles said at least three sea lions had been killed by gunshots.

Even if his mega-hit reality show doesn't often result in permanent romantic success, Fleiss - who has been creating reality TV shows since the 1990s - said he and fiancée Laura Kaeppeler, Miss America 2012, expect to be wed this spring.

Zac Efron has purchased a home in Hollywood Hills for $3.995 million. The actor, who owns another house nearby in Hollywood Hills West, bought a two-story Zen-inspired contemporary behind gates at the end of a long driveway. The 5,644-square-foot home, built in 1964, features panoramic city to ocean views, expanses of glass, an open floor plan, a wine cellar, a gym and a fountain inside the entry. Including the guesthouse there are five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The more than three-quarter-acre lot contains a pool and spa area with a waterfall.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has hired a firm to test for contaminants at one of its middle schools after teachers complained of persistent health issues and students were moved to other classrooms. Supt. Sandra Lyon said the district is working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to conduct a health survey for staff members and provide informational meetings. Lyon told The Times preliminary test results indicated mold was discovered in one patch of carpet due to a leaking refrigerator, but otherwise the main building in question was deemed clear.

Students in 11 middle school classrooms on the Malibu High School campus will be relocated to classrooms at the high school and a nearby elementary school after parents and teachers voiced concerns about potential contaminants in a building. The decision to relocate the Malibu Middle School students comes after teachers banded together to inform the district that several staff members working in the same set of buildings had recently been diagnosed with health problems. Malibu Middle School shares campus space with Malibu High School.

Michael Einziger of the alt-rock band Incubus has listed his Malibu retreat, with a sound studio, for $3.75 million. If you are thinking that a garage band member might live in a grungy pad, think again. This is one classy estate. Set on nearly an acre behind gates, the one-story house was built in 1956 and has been upgraded with such features as a control room and a home theater with a loft viewing lounge. About 3,700 square feet of living space include a great room with a stone fireplace, wood-beam ceilings, four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The California Highway Patrol is telling morning commuters to avoid Pacific Coast Highway near Topanga Wednesday morning after a woman was critically injured in an accident. All eastbound and westbound traffic near Coastline Drive was expected to be closed until about 7 a.m., CHP officials said, as authorities investigate the crash. Eastbound traffic on PCH was being diverted north on Topanga Canyon Road, with westbound PCH traffic diverted onto Sunset Boulevard. “Just avoid it,” said CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have purchased a Malibu estate from actors Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski for $4.8 million. The remodeled home, built in 1992 and set on an acre, has ocean views, vaulted ceilings and a library. A Victorian exterior belies the more than 6,000 square feet of contemporary interior. There are five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Hemsworth, 30, stars in the new movie "Rush. " He has starred in such films as "The Cabin in the Woods" (2012)

Emilio Estevez is offering his gated compound in Malibu for $7.8 million outside of the Multiple Listing Service. The Point Dume-area property of about an acre includes vineyards, a fruit orchard and irrigated garden beds. The Mediterranean-style house features archways, hand-painted frescoes, beamed cathedral ceilings and stained glass. There are 3,731 square feet of living space, four bedrooms and five bathrooms in the main house, plus a guest house with a wine-tasting room. Estevez, 51, and his fiance, Sonja Magdevski, started growing grapes on the site and the endeavor has grown into a business under the Casa Dumetz wine label.
