So the L.A. Times Magazine is losing its bite. ("Man Bites Town: Last Bite," by Harry Shearer, March 15). While Shearer often typified the muddy-headed, illogical thinking of his fellow liberal brethren (sistren? personren?), he did it in a way atypical of political portsiders. Harry Shearer's comparison between Ted Kennedy and David Duke is ludicrous ("Renaissance Men," Nov. 24). Although he may have personal problems, Ted Kennedy has spent a lifetime fighting for the little people and he does not deserve this type of treatment. THEODORE O. JOHNSON JR. Irvine

Good Lord! Don't you read Harry Shearer? One week after he provides insight into the horrors of perfume ("Making a Stink," Oct. 13), I get hit with a surprise allergy attack and the weapon is none other than a fragranced page in The Times itself.
