New England made the Indianapolis Colts pay dearly for their mistakes. Curtis Martin ran for two touchdowns and the Patriots turned two of four Indianapolis fumbles into touchdowns in a 27-9 victory on Sunday. "Our offense got pumped up when we saw how our defense was playing," Martin said. "In the NFL, games are won by those teams who take advantage of the other team's mistakes, and that's what we did."

Greg Hopkins experienced the feeling before. In 1999, Hopkins played for an Albany team that won five games in the final seconds en route to the Arena Football League title. On Sunday, shortly after his game-ending, 21-yard touchdown reception gave the unbeaten Avengers a 59-53 overtime victory over the Colorado Crush before an announced 17,417 at the Pepsi Center, Hopkins acknowledged a trend.

After being disappointed by the season-opening loss to Grand Rapids, the Avengers wanted more than redemption Thursday against the Carolina Cobras. There was something to prove. Both the Avengers and Cobras are in their first Arena Football League season, but Los Angeles sees itself as the more competitive team, having stocked its 24-man roster with 18 veterans while two-thirds of the Carolina roster is comprised of Arena rookies.
