A series of sexual assaults and robberies at massage parlors that were initially believed to be the work of one serial rapist now appear to be the acts of two men operating separately, Riverside police said Thursday. One of the men believed to be responsible for at least 30 "extremely violent" attacks  across the Southland -- Maurice Jennings, 34 -- was arrested after images from a surveillance video were released by authorities to the public. He was arrested Sept. 27, according to Riverside County jail records.

Join us at 9 a.m. when we talk with Times reporter Richard Winton about a serial rapist who has been targeting Southern California massage-parlor workers for years. The man is suspected in at least 30 “extremely violent” attacks that date a decade across Riverside, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. He appears to target immigrant workers and threatens to kill some victims if they report the attacks to police, officials said. Investigators began linking the cases last year, after DNA taken from a 2009 attack in Riverside matched samples from scenes in Gardena, the city of Industry, the Chino Hills area and Fontana.

Authorities believe a serial rapist has attacked at least 30 women in massage parlors across Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, according to Riverside police. The attacks began at least four years ago and stretch from East San Gabriel Valley to Riverside. DNA evidence gathered at the crime scenes was recently matched, allowing police to make an attack-to-attack link in some of the cases to the same perpetrator, law enforcement sources said. The serial attacker is known to have displayed a handgun before forcing the women into sex acts and robbing them.

Lynn Shelton specializes in the small-scale high concept. She has an eye for delicately observed moments and casual absurdities that spin around an obvious plot engine. Like her features "Humpday" and "Your Sister's Sister," her latest Seattle-set comic drama, "Touchy Feely," is a work that gestures toward depths without truly plumbing them. In its gentle way, it's also her broadest, most schematic film. As the story of friends, family and identity crisis meanders toward its low-key feel-good conclusion, exceptionally lovely, nuanced performances by Rosemarie DeWitt and Allison Janney are the chief draw.
