Chris Paul recruited Matt Barnes. Blake Griffin forgave him. And with that confluence of events, the former Lakers small forward officially became a Clipper on Friday, signing a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum of about $1.2 million. Barnes was already in enemy territory a few weeks ago when he worked out with Paul at the Clippers' training facility. “Chris Paul was talking about how tough we were going to be next year, assuming I was a Laker,” Barnes said in a telephone interview.

Clippers small forward Matt Barnes said he was going to play Friday night in his first exhibition against the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center. Barnes had missed the first seven games recovering from a sore left calf. “I'm feeling good,” Barnes said before the game. “I'm definitely ready.” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said backup point guard Darren Collison wasn't going to play because of a bruised left kneecap. “He got banged a little with his knee in the last game,” Rivers said about Collison.

Clippers forward Matt Barnes is not going to play against the Orlando Magic because of a bruised right thigh. Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said Barnes also may not play Thursday night when L.A. plays at the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat. “I think he got hit in the last game,” said Rivers, referring to the Clippers' 137-118 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday at Staples Center. Rivers said not having Barnes, the seventh-man on the team, “is a tough one” for the Clippers because they lose depth behind starting small forward Jared Dudley.

The NBA fined Clippers forward Matt Barnes $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a “timely manner” after he was ejected from a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night at Staples Center. Barnes was called for a flagrant foul two when he tried to block a shot by Kevin Love. The NBA downgraded it to a flagrant one after reviewing the foul. The play took place with 56.8 seconds left in the third quarter of the Clippers' overtime victory over the Timberwolves . Barnes had to be restrained by teammates Stephen Jackson and Willie Green from going after referee Marc Davis.

Matt Barnes returned to an empty arena. It was 11:15 p.m., about an hour after the Lakers' 104-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Tuesday night, and there was Barnes back on the court doing something he had struggled with all night: shooting. Barnes has made only two of his 11 shots in the two playoff games, going 0 for 7 from three-point range. Though he described his sprained right ankle as only 75%-78% recovered, Barnes worked out with Lakers development coach Phil Handy, taking a wide range of jumpers from the baseline, the elbows at the top of the lane and from three-point range.

The moment Matt Barnes jumped, the Dallas Mavericks bench went crazy. Pau Gasol had just launched a corner three-pointer, and Barnes jumped so he could tip in a possible putback. It wasn't needed. Gasol's three-pointer swished into the net and marked one of many clutch plays that led to the Lakers' 112-108 overtime victory Sunday over the Dallas Mavericks. The play gave the Lakers a 103-101 lead with 3:48 left in overtime, but the Mavericks believe the basket shouldn't have counted.

Despite nursing a sprained right ankle he describes as still sore, Lakers forward Matt Barnes will play Sunday in Game 1 of the Lakers-Nuggets first-round series. "I'm going to play no matter what," Barnes said Saturday at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo. "I don't think anyone is 100% at this point. I'll just try to stay warm when I'm out of the game and hopefully I'll be effective. " Barnes' health is an added concern at a small forward spot that is in flux. Lakers forward Metta World Peace will serve a six-game suspension after throwing an elbow last week at Oklahoma City guard James Harden.

After missing the first seven exhibitions because of a sore left calf, Clippers small forward Matt Barnes said that he would practice Thursday and hoped to play Friday night against the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center in L.A.'s final exhibition. Barnes hasn't gotten in a full practice since he was injured about three weeks ago. He said it was important to see how his "running and endurance" would be at practice Thursday. "If everything goes well," Barnes said, "I should be playing tomorrow.

The Lakers were unable to sign Raja Bell, but another antagonist is on the way. Free-agent forward Matt Barnes decided to sign a two-year deal with the Lakers, choosing the chance at a championship over a more lucrative offer from Cleveland on the same day Theo Ratliff agreed to a one-year, $1.35-million contract with the Lakers, adding a veteran shot-blocking center to the second unit. As the Lakers found out last season, Barnes, 30, can pester shooting guards and small forwards alike.
