Clippers small forward Matt Barnes said he was going to play Friday night in his first exhibition against the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center. Barnes had missed the first seven games recovering from a sore left calf. “I'm feeling good,” Barnes said before the game. “I'm definitely ready.” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said backup point guard Darren Collison wasn't going to play because of a bruised left kneecap. “He got banged a little with his knee in the last game,” Rivers said about Collison.

Clippers forward Matt Barnes is not going to play against the Orlando Magic because of a bruised right thigh. Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said Barnes also may not play Thursday night when L.A. plays at the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat. “I think he got hit in the last game,” said Rivers, referring to the Clippers' 137-118 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday at Staples Center. Rivers said not having Barnes, the seventh-man on the team, “is a tough one” for the Clippers because they lose depth behind starting small forward Jared Dudley.

After missing the first seven exhibitions because of a sore left calf, Clippers small forward Matt Barnes said that he would practice Thursday and hoped to play Friday night against the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center in L.A.'s final exhibition. Barnes hasn't gotten in a full practice since he was injured about three weeks ago. He said it was important to see how his "running and endurance" would be at practice Thursday. "If everything goes well," Barnes said, "I should be playing tomorrow.

Despite nursing a sprained right ankle he describes as still sore, Lakers forward Matt Barnes will play Sunday in Game 1 of the Lakers-Nuggets first-round series. "I'm going to play no matter what," Barnes said Saturday at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo. "I don't think anyone is 100% at this point. I'll just try to stay warm when I'm out of the game and hopefully I'll be effective. " Barnes' health is an added concern at a small forward spot that is in flux. Lakers forward Metta World Peace will serve a six-game suspension after throwing an elbow last week at Oklahoma City guard James Harden.

The Lakers were unable to sign Raja Bell, but another antagonist is on the way. Free-agent forward Matt Barnes decided to sign a two-year deal with the Lakers, choosing the chance at a championship over a more lucrative offer from Cleveland on the same day Theo Ratliff agreed to a one-year, $1.35-million contract with the Lakers, adding a veteran shot-blocking center to the second unit. As the Lakers found out last season, Barnes, 30, can pester shooting guards and small forwards alike.

MINNEAPOLIS - Clippers backup small forward Matt Barnes didn't make the trip to Minnesota because he has a bruised left eye, the team announced Wednesday. The Clippers said Barnes has some swelling inside his retina, and that he is going to get some tests run soon. For now, the Clippers said Barnes has been told to get rest and that there is no timetable for his return. "We're going to miss him," Coach Doc Rivers said. Barnes was injured during the game against the Grizzlies on Monday night when he was hit by an inadvertent elbow from Memphis forward Zach Randolph.

Matt Barnes and Devin Ebanks are battling for more than a starting spot. Whichever small forward comes out on the short end probably will be relegated to third-string status behind Metta World Peace , who is coming off the bench this season for the first time as a Laker. Barnes started Monday night in the Lakers' exhibition opener against the Clippers at Staples Center, something he did not do in any of the 53 games he played with the team last season. Lakers Coach Mike Brown said Barnes received the starting nod based on his being more consistent and having played better defensively.

The first real test of the Doc Rivers era has appeared, and it can appropriately be described in less than 140 characters. Can the new Clippers coach practice the same toughness that he preaches? Less than a month into his first season as the Clippers' $7-million savior, Rivers must start by repairing his own locker room after one of his players threatened to blow it apart. The player's name is Matt Barnes, his motive was anger, his weapon was Twitter, and 20 seconds worth of his insensitive typing could rattle this team for weeks.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - These are good times for Clippers forward Matt Barnes. He's playing on a winning team and he's playing a significant role off the bench. His 25.2 minutes per game is the third highest of his nine-year career. He's averaging 8.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. "So far, behind that Golden State season, this is the most fun I've had with the collective group of guys like this," said Barnes, who played with the Warriors in 2006-07 and 2007-08. "And we're playing good basketball.
