Melissa Gilbert may have been eliminated from “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night, but she went out on a hot note - apparently mirroring her working relationship with dance pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “We talked about how some people are opposites, they're like oil and water … ,” she told “Access Hollywood” after the show, but “we were just fire and fire all the time.” “With us, you had no idea what was happening,” Chmerkovskiy told “Access,” saying he'd enjoyed their roller coaster of a season.

Casting has begun for one of the most thankless roles in Hollywood: president of the Screen Actors Guild. Tired of infighting and what she called an "untenable" situation, actress Melissa Gilbert said Thursday that she wouldn't seek a third term as SAG president. Her departure sets the stage for what history suggests could be another contentious battle for control of Hollywood's biggest and, many say, most dysfunctional union.

Actress Melissa Gilbert on Tuesday won a starring role as president of the Screen Actors Guild for the second time, a victory for a less strident wing of the 118,000-member union. The election comes as SAG is on the verge of forging a new three-year contract with advertisers that could be announced as early as today. SAG and advertisers started formal negotiations only Tuesday, although union and company representatives have been crafting a deal behind the scenes the last few weeks.

Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell and "ER" star Noah Wyle were the top vote-getters as members of the Screen Actors Guild elected 46 directors to its national board in results tilting heavily toward candidates supporting the moderate regime of President Melissa Gilbert. The election, results of which were unveiled early Tuesday, is part of a reorganization that involves cutting the union's 107-member board by more than one-third.

After trouncing fellow 1970s TV star Valerie Harper on Saturday in balloting for president of the Screen Actors Guild, actress Melissa Gilbert now faces the daunting task of trying to heal a union whose bitter election mirrored its chronic infighting. Gilbert, whose election in November was nullified because of alleged election irregularities, received 21,351 votes, or 56.6%, in the rerun election, compared with Harper's 12,613, or 33.4%. The turnout was a record for a SAG presidential race.
