News Corp.'s IGN Entertainment has acquired Hearst Corp.'s UGO Entertainment in a move that assembles a broad collection of websites aimed at male video gamers. IGN and UGO each operate websites that provide game reviews as well as other content aimed at men ages 18 to 34. Topics include movies, gadgets, sports and "hot girls," as the UGO site puts it. The sites draw a combined 70 million monthly users worldwide. The merger sets the stage for IGN to be spun off into its own entity.

Unemployment is still taking a toll on some of America's best beer customers: men in their 20s and 30s. But don't count big beer out yet. It's beginning to show signs of improvement. Last week, Chicago-based MillerCoors cited continued sales declines for major brands such as Miller Lite and Coors Light, and even steeper declines for value-price brands. "We're in unprecedented water in the beer business," MillerCoors Chief Executive Leo Kiely said, noting that U.S. beer sales have posted moderate increases annually, with the exception of 1992.

Leigh Steinberg is an avid watcher of college football, a California alumnus, and briefly an agent for USC Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart before the 2006 NFL draft. And Steinberg's not quite sure where he should go to watch Saturday's games featuring third-ranked Texas Christian against San Diego State and top-ranked Oregon against his Bears. Those games are on Versus, not necessarily the go-to destination for college football fans on a Saturday afternoon. Polish police found the infamous "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign that was stolen from the gate of the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz after an intensive three-day hunt and arrested five suspects, police said early today. The sign was found cut into three pieces. Police spokeswoman Katarzyna Padlo told The Associated Press that the sign was found Sunday night in northern Poland, the other end of the country from the southern Polish town where the Auschwitz memorial museum is located and where it disappeared before dawn Friday.

THE golf course at the Riviera Country Club, preternaturally verdant and perfect, is close enough to the ocean to be cooled by a breeze most days. An invitation from a club member would normally be welcomed by a golfer who prides himself on his low handicap. However, if the invitee is a workingman in his mid-60s and the inviter is retired, even a beautiful, world-class course in Pacific Palisades might not be seductive enough.

Testosterone therapy is an unproven yet growing practice among aging men that urgently needs closer study to establish its benefits and risks, according to a one-year study by the Institute of Medicine. The report, released Wednesday, noted that medical studies on the hormone's effects in men aged 65 or older are scant, short and inconclusive. Supposed benefits in such areas as strength, sexual function, mental acuity and overall well-being have not been proven.
