MICHAEL Chiklis is one busy man. After winding down his fifth season as antiheroic "different kind of cop" Vic Mackey on the critically acclaimed FX series "The Shield," he's moved right into promoting his big-screen appearance as fearsome-but-lovable superhero the Thing (a.k.a. Ben Grimm) in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." Three days after the film opens on Friday, Chiklis, 43, will be back on "The Shield" set shooting the last 13 episodes of that series.

One of the most intriguing things about the new crime drama "Pawn" is Michael Chiklis' British accent. It's not that it's particularly bad or good, but every time he speaks - which is a lot - it does make you wonder why ? The movie is a bit like that accent and joins the pantheon of mildly entertaining thrillers having a go at the domino logic we've seen so often in these movies, starting with that classic flaw in the criminal mind that makes two-bit thugs think they can outsmart compromised cops.

Michael Chiklis, who scored an Emmy and Golden Globe for playing corrupt cop Vic Mackey in "The Shield," stars as mob casino boss Vincent Savino in CBS' "Vegas. " The freshman series takes place in 1960, as Las Vegas was growing into its role as Sin City. Vincent Savino is on the same spectrum as Vic Mackey. Vic Mackey was an idealist who spiraled into corruption because he looked at [his world] and felt the only way he could effect change was to get down and dirty, and he justified it in any number of different ways.

Twenty-four hours after scoring the biggest upset of Sunday's Emmy Awards, Michael Chiklis was still caught up in the ensuing whirlwind. The phone had not stopped ringing, the congratulatory food and fruit baskets kept arriving at his front door, and Chiklis was still overwhelmed by his win as outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his role as a corrupt detective in FX's "The Shield." "I haven't had any time for reflection," Chiklis said during a brief calm moment. "I know it's important.

He might not boast the Invisible Woman's striking beauty, the Human Torch's pretty-boy charm or Mr. Fantastic's unparalleled intellect, but don't be surprised when Michael Chiklis as the Thing steals the show in Marvel Comics' newest superhero flick, "Fantastic Four." A rocky-hided monster with a heart of gold, the Thing is without a doubt the most complex member of the Fantastic Four. A reluctant superhero, the Thing is endowed with incredible strength but is trapped in a body he hates.

Michael Chiklis always knew the end of FX's "The Shield," which revolves around his portrayal of a corrupt renegade cop, would come. But how it would end constantly weighed on him. Would his Vic Mackey get his comeuppance? Would he pay a price for his evil deeds, including murdering a fellow detective in cold blood, or would he get away? Would he live? Die?

The Midcentury Effect that rippled outward from "Mad Men" and produced "Pan Am," "The Playboy Club" and "Magic City" has now tossed "Vegas" upon our shores. Premiering Tuesday on CBS, it is set in 1960 in the City sometimes called Sin, when men were men and women were showgirls and Las Vegas was still an expression - or an impression, perhaps - of the Wild West and not the fantastical, international theme park it has since become. The series comes from Nicholas Pileggi - who cowrote the screenplays for Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" and "Casino," from his own books - with "Without a Trace" vet Greg Walker aboard to give it that TV shape and pace.

With "High School," director/co-writer John Stalberg Jr. attempts to make the ultimate teen stoner comedy, but the movie winds up a disappointing buzz kill. A potential valedictorian (Matt Bush) tries marijuana for the first time only to discover his maniacal principal (Michael Chiklis) is imposing mandatory drug testing on everyone at the school. This launches an ill-conceived idea from the red-eyed pal (Sean Marquette) who got him high in the first place to get the entire student body baked on pot brownies to throw off the results, a bit of stoned logic that also requires ripping off the local weirdo dealer (Adrien Brody)

The title character of ABC's 1990s drama "The Commish," paunchy police commissioner Tony Scali, never let chasing a criminal get in the way of a good meal. "Chases usually lead to ... injuries, but no one ever got hurt by a bowl of linguini," said Scali, as played by Michael Chiklis. So guess what Chiklis is doing in the opening scene of his new FX show, "The Shield," in which he plays a hard-driving and hard-living police detective? One clue: There's not a strand of linguini in sight.
