You've seen it all before in movies by Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino and every imitator in between. And yet, taken on its own merits, the dark Irish crime comedy "Perrier's Bounty," directed by Ian FitzGibbon, proves a fast-paced and enjoyable if violent diversion that revels in its quirky characters, committed performances and involving twists. Anchored by an energetic turn by the versatile Cillian Murphy ("Red Eye," "28 Days Later") as Michael, a "perpetual waster" with a ticking clock on his debt to scary gangster Darren Perrier ( Brendan Gleeson)

During the execution of a search warrant at her home on May 18, 1996, authorities found this letter written by Sherri Dally to her estranged husband, Michael. It was on top of the refrigerator in the Dallys' Ventura home. The letter was not dated, but prosecutors believe based on references in the document that it was written only a few months before Sherri Dally was killed. The handwritten letter is expected to be read to jurors today before defense attorneys begin calling witnesses.

On June 29, The Times profiled Jani Schofield, a 6-year-old girl diagnosed with schizophrenia, and her parents in "Jani's at the mercy of her mind." "No Means No," the title of a new "CBS Schoolbreak Special" airing today at 3 p.m. on Channels 2 and 8, has nothing to do with drug abuse prevention. The issue here, as in a recent "ABC Afterschool Special," is date rape. ABC's "Date Rape" was the more forthright and forceful of the two, digging deeper into the consequences of the act. CBS uses the word rape only once, to suggest that what takes place "might even be considered" that.

Two weeks ago Outtakes asked readers to help count the buckles attached to Michael Jackson's "Bad" outfit and, more earthshakingly, explain why the Ungloved One is wearing so many of them. The deluge of loose leaf and post cards and even a typed letter or two was overwhelming. Not one managed to come up with the correct number. According to Jackson's PR people, Michael--who designed the outfit himself--is wearing 46 buckles. Why? The PR people said Michael said there's no special meaning behind them.
