Though most county basketball players have called it a season, the top seniors will play one more time, in the 28th annual Orange County All-Star basketball game. Sponsored by the Costa Mesa Kiwanis Club, it will take place April 24 at Orange Coast College. The girls play at 4 p.m., the boys at 7 p.m. Squads are split into teams north and south, with the Garden Grove Freeway as the dividing line. Mater Dei and Santiago are considered North schools.

For four years, Michaela Ross was the go-to player for Newport Harbor. But when Ross was graduated, so was the greatest girls' basketball player to pass through the school's halls. The Sailors remained intact--except for Ross--and now Newport Harbor is a team in transition. Tuesday night at the Marina tournament, the Sailors showed Rancho Alamitos what they have to do in the post-Ross era.
