Michelle Obama joined White House chefs Sunday afternoon for a public preview of the state dinner that night, praising the kitchen's huckleberry pie and confessing that, yes, she might even do the traditional duty of coming up with her own china. "I think that's part of the job," she said, sliding in a joke about the challenge the White House kitchen has in getting her daughters to eat anything green.

Michelle Obama is kicking herself. In proof that the mouth is faster than the brain, the first lady referred to herself as a "busy single mother" in a CBS interview. (Video below.) She then said, well, no, she's not single. But, she told a Vermont CBS affiliate, "sometimes when you've got the husband who's president, it can feel a little single -- but he's there. " She corrected her characterization to "busy working mom. " All things considered, it's a rather geniune slip-up from a mom who probably doesn't always have it easy. Like first ladies throughout history, she's unpaid and has no official duties but is constantly in the spotlight.

Sporting a sleek new hairstyle, she proved with every outfit she is as much a style icon as her notably fashionable predecessors Jacqueline Kennedy and Nancy Reagan. At the Commander in Chief ball, Obama danced the night away in a red velvet chiffon halter gown by Jason Wu, who also designed the feathery white creation she wore during her husband's first inauguration.

WASHINGTON -- First Lady Michelle Obama cast her ballot for president Monday, presumably voting for her husband with the absentee form she dropped in the mail. After @MichelleObama tweeted that news in the afternoon, the president announced that he'll also be casting his ballot early in a tweet that includes a handy link for others who wish to follow suit. The tweet-retweet that followed shows the Obama social media strategy at work in his campaign's ground game. But it also points directly to the analysis that the Mitt Romney campaign offered up Monday morning, when it questioned whether the effectiveness of the Obama voter-turnout efforts are as good as they sound.
