Miramax Films and Thomas D. Mottola have acquired the rights to develop and produce a Broadway musical based on Pink Floyd's seminal 1979 rock album, "The Wall." Roger Waters, who conceived and created the work, will write the book and arrange and orchestrate his music for the stage production.

Jonathan Burnham, the president and editor in chief of Miramax Books, is leaving the company to become publisher of HarperCollins, it was confirmed Monday. The departure comes as Miramax Film Corp. co-founders Bob and Harvey Weinstein are in the final stretches of negotiating their exit from Miramax parent Walt Disney Co.

A French media company sued Miramax Films Corp. on Tuesday for $8 million it claims the U.S. company failed to pay as an advance for the rights to an award-winning movie it produced. Hachette Premiere & Cie, in papers filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, is also seeking to have Miramax barred from distributing the film, "She's So Lovely," in the United States. A spokesman for Miramax was not immediately available for comment.
