Five young girls trapped while playing in the trunk of a car died of heat exposure in West Valley City, Utah, police said. Two of the girls were sisters, two were cousins and the fifth was being cared for by the mother of one of the children, said a police spokesman. Temperatures reached the upper 90s in the Salt Lake City area. West Valley City is a southwest suburb. Police said there were no witnesses who saw the girls, between 2 and 6 years old, climb into the trunk.
