Brides-to-be who want ideas for that dream wedding might check out A Soolip Wedding on Sunday). The annual event bills itself as "a celebration of inspiration" that draws together "a well-edited collection of L.A.'s unique and most distinctive bridal resources." This year's edition will feature a Monique Lhuillier bridal fashion show along with mini-facials by Kate Somerville aestheticians and tips from hairstylist Yuki Sharoni. Dressing for the holidays is part of the season's fun. But forget the images you see in fashion magazines and on feel-good television commercials. In Southern California, the weather seldom requires swaddling in a plaid cashmere scarf, chunky fleece-lined boots, nubby cable sweater and peacoat. And we try to be savvy enough to just say no to a tacky Christmas sweater (unless we mean to wear it in an ultra-cool, ironic way). So how in this land of seasonless dressing does one add holiday cheer when the weather outside is far from frightful?

Actress Nina Dobrev is best known for playing Elena Gilbert on the hit CW show "The Vampire Diaries," but she garnered some much-deserved sartorial nods at the recent Toronto Film Festival. Dobrev made appearances alongside costar Emma Watson to promote their new film, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower," slated to open Sept. 20. Dobrev's looks ranged from formal gowns to flirty shorts ensembles. At the film's premiere, Dobrev looked like a princess in a Monique Lhuillier strapless, sequin embellished gown with full hem. She chose a sexier silhouette for a party at Soho House, wearing a red Elie Saab dress with a plunging neckline and a peplum waist.

The under-the-sea theme has been big on the runways the past couple of seasons, as seen at Monique Lhuillier, Chanel and elsewhere. And now at the Emmys, where we've spotted several red carpet mermaids dressed in ocean-inspired styles -- Sofia Vergara in a backless teal, hand-beaded Zuhair Murad gown, Heidi Klum in a super-sexy aqua chiffon Alexandre Vauthier gown slit thigh high and Julianne Hough in a risqué, strapless sea foam green corset gown...

Ladies in red. The fall season's red-oxblood color trend seems to be influencing the Emmy red carpet. I love the sleeves on Mayim Bialik's deep burgundy Pamella Roland gown, though they must be really hot. Then there's Julia Louis-Dreyfus' classically beautiful, merlot-colored silk tulle Vera Wang mermaid gown with ruched accents on the bodice. And Tina Fey is wearing a strapless deep burgundy gown with corset detailing by Vivienne Westwood. But Ginnifer Goodwin's Monique Lhuillier dress with a high-low hem is my favorite so far because it's so unusual.

Brad Pitt's ad for Chanel No. 5 debuted Monday. He's the first male spokes-celebrity for the famed women's fragrance, and he does a smoldering good job of making you want to run for the perfume bottle. [People] Katy Perry, Chelsea Handler and Sarah Jessica Parker headlined at the amFar Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles, honoring CAA managing partner Kevin Huvane. A raft of stars turned out, including Kate Hudson, Mark Salling, Lance Bass and Octavia Spencer. The event reportedly raised $1.3 million to fund AIDS research.

It's a chilly 56 degrees in L.A. today. So will Hollywood shiver its way down the red carpet or cover up with capes and furs? Shiver, at least judging from the strapless early arrivals. I guess you don't spend all those hours at SoulCycle to cover up. So far, I haven't been wowed by any of the gowns. Debra Messing is in a rather simple Donna Karan strapless black ruched silk organza creation, and Claire Danes is in an equally understated red carpet red halter gown by Versace. Julianne Hough's white Monique Lhuillier gown with gold, shard-like beading on the bodice has a little more spunk.

Along with blues, shades of pale blush, rose, dove gray and nude were also popular on the Emmy red carpet Sunday, for better or worse. "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus wore an all-over embroidered rose gold Monique Lhuillier column gown that shined like a pearl. "Homeland" actress Claire Danes chose an ethereal nude tulle Armani Privé gown with a tulle bodice embroidered with sequins, and a full crinoline lace skirt accented with a woven horizontal ribbon motif. Ever the risk taker, January Jones chose a nude lace Givenchy confection that unfortunately resembled a Band-Aid, especially since the fit was too tight across the bodice.

Getting dressed when you're pregnant is hard enough, but getting dressed for the Golden Globes red carpet? No thank you. Kerry Washington, who is expecting her first child later this year with Nnamdi Asomugha, enlisted Balenciaga designer Alexander Wang for the task. And he created a bonded silk crepe gown in pale green with a flattering petal effect across the front. Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde, who is expecting with fiancé Jason Sudeikis, went to Gucci for her slinky, emerald-green silk georgette long-sleeve gown, which is embroidered all over with green metallic sequins and crystals creating a serpentine effect. (She also wears Gucci in her role in "Rush," which is nominated for best picture, drama.
