Few people outside the advertising world have heard of the agency Asher/Gould. In fact, even some in the business don't know much about this Los Angeles ad firm. That's why many executives in the local ad community were more than mildly surprised in recent weeks when this usually docile agency snatched the $15-million Baskin-Robbins ice cream account and then landed the much sought-after $20-million to $30-million Suzuki automotive business.

W.B. Doner & Co. said Tim Blett has been appointed to head a new unit called Doner Automotive, overseeing the agency's Mazda account. Doner Automotive will be based in Southern California. Doner last year won the $250-million account, which had long been handled by Foote, Cone & Belding. Blett previously worked on Ford dealer association accounts handled by Doner's Detroit office. . . . Asher Gould Advertising of Los Angeles said it has changed its name to Asher & Partners.

Suzuki--still struggling to regain respect from skeptical American car buyers--on Friday shuffled the keys to its estimated $20-million annual advertising business to Asher/Gould of Los Angeles. The account was one of the largest and most sought after on the West Coast. American Suzuki Motor Co.'
